Orev is a sniper found on Voeld, he appears for like 2 seconds during MEA but I DESPERATELY wish we could have romanced him
Orev is very chill about being called “Ryder’s sniper boyfriend from Voeld”
He does leave Voeld at least once a month to spend time with Ryder on the Tempest: he’s often quiet, pretty observant, and he gets along with everyone
But just because he’s easy going doesn’t mean he doesn’t have his moments of arrogance. Because he’s convinced he will never “miss”, Ryder worries about the one unlucky day when he is going to miss and get injured. It haunts them a little bit.
One day, Peebee convinces Orev to participate in an experiment with a faster-than-usual Remnant that could potentially evade Orev’s sniping bullets. It doesn’t work: Orev shoots it every time, but Peebee is excited with the results and already planning on how to make her Remnant better. Later that night when Ryder and Orev discuss it, Ryder wants to make sure Orev knows he can say no to their crew. He doesn’t have to participate in anything to have a place on the Tempest because he already has a place. Orev replies he knows, but he wants to do an experiment like this. It’s fun, after all.
And that leads to many other moments between him and the crew. He, Vetra and Drack together are lethal. And he’s basically bff with SAM now.
Ryder, at one point, asks Orev if he flirts with everyone the way he did with them during their first meeting. Orev says he absolutely doesn’t. 'So why did you do it with me?' asks Ryder. Orev says he doesn’t know, that perhaps it’s just fate. But actually, he heard the stories about Ryder, wanted to see what they were about and perhaps, he wanted to impress them.
And that need to impress Ryder is still there. Sometimes it leads to funny situations (often involving Liam asking Orev to help him do something that should best be ignored), other times it's not funny at all: it’s Orev volunteering to go on a dangerous mission, because he doesn’t trust anyone else to snipe as well as he does. And Ryder is angry, but Orev tells them that fearing for the other’s safety is normal. That they worry about Ryder all the time, and has Ryder ever really thought about it? But living, truly living, means committing to something, a mission, a purpose. And Orev is inspired by Ryder every day. He wants to do more. And that, Ryder gets.
But Ryder insists Orev tries to protect himself more because truly living means taking care of the time they have together: it would be nice to have years and years of we/us/together, rather than alone/sad/grieving. And that, Orev finally gets.
No matter where they are, Orev finds a way to talk to Ryder every day. If he can’t talk, he sends a message. Ryder’s favorite message from him is simple: “Miss you.”
