I saw a lot of theories that Rosie is not who she actually is and is a disguised for someone
But then a cruel idea showed up
What if Rosie was a real person and Alastor became friends with (in the beginning before knowing who actually owns his soul) then one day Rosie suddenly started acting weird and when Alastor confronted her being worried it became obvious that she or whoever it was is not Rosie, and now Alastor everytime he sees 'Rosie' all that he sees is someone wearing her skin and took her voice and it acts like her to mess with him, mocking his real friendship he had with the real one
And maybe Al dramatically distanced himself from Vox because he was scared it would take him and do the same thing it did to Rosie. He didn't want the real Vox to disappear. Vox hates him now but he is willing to live with that, as long Vox hates him Vox would never end up like Rosie
Huh. That actually kind of reminds me of an idea for a story I had whence upon a time, where something was eating its way through Sinners, possessing their bodies and puppeting them around while slowly consuming them from the inside out. When it was done and moved into the next victim, what it left behind was a grey-skinned black-eyed husk under its thrall; the residents of Cannibal Town. And its latest switch was from Franklin to Rosie.
This idea does sound like it would make for a very fun and heart-wrenching story. Or, alternatively, another fun take could be that this is what Alastor believes happened to the Rosie he knew. When in reality, he's just seeing more and more of the layers peeled back and who she is under the veneer.
Either way, I like the implications this has for Alastor's relationship with Vox. Admittedly, I did want there to be more to the story than, 'Alastor's just a dick,' and Alastor being paranoid that Vox might be corrupted by this thing--whether it's real or not--sounds cool.
