I’ve been struggling to read thru the OT (Old Testament) for years... either bc I get distracted, bored, or just don’t understand the OT.

But the Ryrie Study Bible is helping me understand! It gives a background history and intro for each book. There are footnotes and cross references all around.

I ❤️ it!

Is there a blessing that God seems to be withholding from your life?

Perhaps God is trying to tell you something, beckoning you to return to Him, and reminding you to fix your eyes on your First Love.

You can do all the right things: follow traditions, follow rules, and try to avoid sin, but how is your heart with the Lord?

Do you feel joy when you serve Him? He desires mercy, not sacrifice. Outwardly, you can check all the boxes in bringing your offerings, but where is your heart?

If you heart is far from God and out of touch from His presence, you will miss the most beautiful experience in knowing who God is to you.

But if you would fix your heart, your mind, and soul to Him, you will begin to know Him and taste a goodness and freedom indescribable and unimaginable. Your life will never be the same.

One of our pastors once said something to the effect of "our biggest problems people face aren't behavioral or emotional, but theological." When I see these simple, "feel-good" pictures and phrases popping up all over blogs, often from folks who are followers of Christ, I understand what he means. Life isn't about self-confidence boosting statements or positive slogans, but following Christ in obedience. And theology serves the latter goal splendidly as Ryrie states in Basic Theology, "... holy living must be based on healthy theology." The statement above simply isn't theologically accurate and therefore aligning yourself to it will not result in holy living. And if you're not pursuing holy living (we all fall short of actually achieving that goal), then you're missing the entirety of Christ's purpose. As I grow in my theology, I sincerely hope my actions and words will reflect holy living.
