HOW DID I FORGET THIS EPISODE HAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SCENES
The way Shawn covers for Lassie instead of calling him out in front of his dad! The way Lassie tells him the truth, so that they're on the 'inside' with each other! The way Shawn half-means the ease up, because he's still so complex about Henry!
And the "I'm beginning to understand you" bit??? The way it completely baffles Shawn??? screaming crying
"Beyond at sea " is such a great episode I just love how they switched their usual roles and made Scully the "believer" one instead of Mulder and the whole vibe is so eerie it was prolly the first time I was actually creeped out by an X-Files episode 😅 everything about Luther Boggs is fucking terrifying imo
letsgo trinity balloon clutch?
i know i literally just made a post about this and it kind of contradicts the post im about to make but idc bc i have many versions of canon in my head so it's all real to me
as magic incarnate it doesn't make sense for merlin to not have access to certain magic. like even if balinor wasn't his father, as magic incarnate, i think he'd still have the ability to control, command, and hatch dragons. as magic incarnate, he also embodies the magic of seers, so he should also have dreams of the future. as magic incarnate, he should have access to every form of magic across albion
Season 1, Episode 13: Terry Jr. and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Dad
Favorite quote/moment: The party doing everything possible to NOT go in the Tower.
General thoughts:
I don't listen to Radio Lab, but it's still a fun intro. And the first appearance of Jimmy Wong!
The Dad Facts this week, which I generally skip over when I re-listen, are great. Darryl is such a liar. So many of his facts are about these secret outings he has. Henry's retainer is a fun bit that pays off later. Glenn's dad joke is very funny.
I had totally forgotten about the phone call with Mercedes. It makes for a beautiful portrait of their relationship. These early phone calls that the dads have with their wives are really great for the world building and stakes of what's happening.
I had forgotten about Ron's anger at Terry Jr. in this one. It's interesting, because it doesn't feel like something he would actually feel. Maybe it's just a good reminder that Ron doesn't really know how to process his feelings. Or others. The dads do a great job of trying to remind him and coach him through how Terry Jr. must be feeling.
Conversation with Henry and Ron about loving someone but not getting it back. Oof. Big Willy vibes, knowing what we hear Ron ask later in the show.
I had forgotten the early heat against Erin in these early episodes with her and the trees attacking the dads. She really comes around to helping them out.
I had also forgotten about the wrestling belt. Yet another item that doesn't really get used. I get it. It's happened a lot in the campaign I'm in too. Sometimes you get cool things and you can't find a way to use them right away and then you just forget you have them.
Overall, a fun episode, but another middling one for me. Next time, the dads actually climb the tower.
