every day, no thoughts, just,
"two queens"
"yeah i'll bet"
S1EP18 of Supergirl, World's Finest: Barry says, "I have to consume about 10,000 calories a day." (The average person needs roughly 2000-3000 calories.)
Pause. Wait a minute.
Opens S1EP2 of The Flash, Fastest Man Alive:
"I passed out again?" "Total metabolic failure brought on by acute hypoglycemia." "I'm not eating enough. So an I.V. bag and I'm good to go?" [Chuckles] "Try 40."
Then...
"I've done a few calculations. You need to consume an amount equal to roughly 850 tacos."
According to Google... The average taco is 150 calories (though this includes cheese and Cisco mentions that he didn't include cheese so maybe a little less.)
So: 150 x 850 equals... 127,500?! What the Fuck. What The Fuck.
Okay, back to those IV bags. From what I've read, you treat hypoglycemia (Which is how Caitlin refers to Barry's issue, "acute hypoglycemia) with D5W, which is an IV solution with 5% dextrose (a sugar) in water. The IV bags that they show are 1000mL, though they don't say D5W, they say Sodium Chloride (Saline) which I think is used to treat dehydration. Which we could either pass over or we could assume Caitlin actually got it wrong and that's why he needed forty of them or the saline was just as effective as giving him the D5W.
This also raises another question, as we pan over to the empty IV bags that he used while he was passed out... How quickly does his body process those? How long was he laying there? He passes out when its dark out and its still dark out when he wakes up so...
And my FINAL QUESTION: Does hypoglycemia make sense as a symptom for Barry not eating enough? Is Team Flash's solution to his hypoglycemia even sensical? I wish I knew more about how any of this stuff worked so I could effectively call bullshit. I think it makes sense but I honestly don't know.
Character Study: Suzuki Iruma (pt1?)
Say, if one thinks about it, Iruma's perspective on hope V.S. despair seems rather... realistic? When it comes to him it's "well that doesn't help with survival ya know".
Which gives of this huge whiplash of that:
Despite his cheerful personality, the comedic pretence of the show, and all the (relatively) improved living conditions up till the point where he stops Kiriwo's plans,
he's still stuck in the survival mode that is deeply ingrained into him since birth.
It's realistic, but really sad in hindsight once that removing the ball of fireworks scene from s1 is deeply thought about.
