Sabzi (Iranian) - Magic in the Summer Night (giclée, 2000)
Cuisine Iranian
Vegetarian Ghormeh Sabzi is a flavorful Iranian stew that replaces the traditional meat with an assortment of herbs, beans, and vegetables. Fragrant herbs like parsley, cilantro, and fenugreek are slow-cooked with kidney beans or chickpeas, creating a rich, herbaceous base.
Ghormeh Sabzi is Iran’s national stew. This vegetarian ghormeh sabzi is lush and sumptuous, packed with flavourful herbs and sour dried lime

Representation in media
is nowhere to be found for people of Iranian descent so excuse me if I didn't care when Crazy Rich Asians came out. The Asian community has already had Fresh Off the Boat and other shows, and my white American friends love watching K Dramas. I myself watched a Chinese historical soap on Netflix. I just don't think that Asians have a problem with representation- especially positive representation. I have never seen even one Persian character on a TV show. Nope, not even a sassy best friend. Never once.
I didn't realize how much the following would affect me.
So I clicked on this thumbnail because I care about how mainstream media are reporting the recent propaganda by the Bolton and Pompeo administration. I did NOT expect this 2-parted joke.
For context, he was showing a news clip in which a reporter said "There are Iranian fingerprints all over this tanker" or something like that.
I wasn't even mad. I'm used to Iranians getting lumped together with Arabs. But I still automatically said to my fiance, "Hummus isn't Iranian." Then Trevor went on...
I lost my shit. I couldn't believe The Daily Show *didn't* just stereotype a country of 80 million people by saying we eat hummus.
But not only that, he used a Farsi word, sabzi, something we actually eat! And then he shamed the audience for laughing about the hummus, and knowing nothing about Iranian culture.
I was giddy the rest of the night.
There's no representation for Iranians in the media, so this tiny, stupid joke made me incredibly happy. I felt seen for the first time ever on TV. Thank you Trevor Noah.
And I never want to hear about the "lack" of Asians or Latinos on TV or movies. Ever again.
