Kobold
Keen. Quick. Skittish.
A shudder races through Noah's body. He can still feel the seat of the squad car against his back, but everything feels softer. Like he is wrapped in cotton. He twitches and his eyes snap open. His vision blurs as a ray of sunlight shines through the windshield and blinds him. He tries to shield his eyes with his hand, but the motion of his hand feels distorted and is blocked by his clothes. He realizes that the tight police uniform he's wearing is no longer tight at all. In fact, he's practically swimming in it. His heart is racing as he pulls himself free. His legs are now angled and the tiny claws on his paw-like foot get caught on the fabric as he slips out of his clothes like a cat and into the foot space beneath the steering wheel. He feels his new tail follow him. It instinctively curls around his body in the tight space. The dim light does little to hinder his vision and finally, he can get a look at himself. Light brown fur covers his entire body. His legs are angled and his feet are small paws.
— Noah's awakening in the New World
The fast and cunning Kobolds can eat even the most rotten of food. Their senses are excellent, but their natural cowardice means they will rarely stand a fight for long.
Small and Slim
Standing about 70 centimeters (2 feet) to a bit over 1 meter (3 feet) tall, the diminutive kobolds survive in a world full of larger and stronger creatures by avoiding notice or, barring that, avoiding combat. Their bodies are slim, with strong legs, long arms, and sharp nails at the ends of their thin fingers. They walk on their toes, their slim body slouching forward ever so slightly. Fur that has a soft and silky texture covers them from head to toe. Beneath it, their rosy skin covers thin limbs and muscles.
Their compact and light builds give them a low terminal velocity. They will instinctively use their tail to control their descent and land on their feet. No matter how high the drop, a kobold will never fall fast enough to be injured by the impact. A useful ability, considering their small claws make them excellent climbers.
Male and female kobolds are about equal in size but males are on average slightly stronger and heavier. Both genders' genitals are usually obscured by fur, with the only reliable way to tell one from the other being the mane adult male kobolds grow around their necks. Their furs can be any color from black to brown to white and can have accents of varying colors.
Keen Senses
The kobold's large eyes can be any color from brown to blue. They see in full color and have excellent low-light vision thanks to a reflective membrane behind their retinas. Even in near absolute darkness, they can see in shades of grey, allowing them to navigate at night or in caves with ease. Kobolds generally dislike being in the open and since their bodies require no sunlight to survive, many are completely nocturnal. However, they can sleep equally well both during the day and at night.
Kobolds have large ears that do more than just make them cuter. They instinctively snap towards sudden noises and can hear sounds higher than what most other races can perceive. Their noses are also good, providing them with a decent sense of smell. However, they are not good enough to track other creatures.
Their excellent senses are combined with a natural attentiveness. Even if they don't notice it themselves, imps are always on the lookout for danger. Behavior that makes imps seem skittish to others, but also almost impossible to surprise.
