Chapter 17: Smoke Screen

As Sakura learned the next day, the former Team Taka had accidentally found out about the machinations of an organisation called Mirai no taiyō - sun of the future. So they decided to watch Sakura in the background. Her attackers from the day before had also been from this organisation. At least that gave her a sinking feeling in her stomach.

"Does Konoha know?" Sakura wanted to know.

"We have nothing to do with your village," Suigetsu said. Karin gave him an angry look.

"I thought you took care of that?" she hissed.

"Why should I, Karin?" he replied with a shrug. "I made a promise to Sasuke, but that didn't mean that I would willingly transmit information to other villages."

Sakura heard Karin cracking her knuckles. The next moment she slammed her fist at Suigetsu. Of course, her attack missed as Suigetsu turned into water in a split second.

Sakura cast a worried look at Jugo. This very quickly overreacted to aggression. However, he was busy feeding some birds along the way with Momoka. She looked at the so unequal troops that Sasuke had chosen as a team. The gate of Kirigakure came into view.

"Here we part our ways", said Jugo.

"If you need help, then get in touch, Sakura", Karin said and smiled at her.

Sakura raised her hand in farewell. As quickly as the three disappeared, her eyes couldn't keep up. She took a deep breath. Whatever awaited her, Sakura hoped she could pull off the task.

Her gut told her it wasn't going to be that easy.

You know by now that I'm a little ho for my Neji/Sakura, I'd like to see your Ask Game response to them.

· Who cooks: Sakura. She take’s cooking lessons from her Sensei, though Neji also likes to cook once in a while.

· Who does the laundry and other chores: Neji often prefers to do the chores, finding them a calming escape from the life of a shinobi.

· How many children do they have: I’d say…two XD

· Who’s more dominate: I’d say they’re both very much on even ground here. They both have very dominant personalities at times and they can butt heads, but they’re both willing to take a step back and find some common ground to their problems.

· Favorite nonsexual activity: Volunteering. I think the two of them would like to just go around Konoha helping people with problems. Carrying bags for old ladies, retrieving cats from trees, helping people with small problems around the village.

· Their favorite place to be together: The hospital garden. Sakura spends a lot of time at the hospital naturally, so the two of them like to go and have a picnic in the garden there, or just spend a few minutes together while Sakura’s on break.

· Any traditions: On Sakura’s birthday they have a tradition of going to the Sushi place together and having a nice meal out before taking a walk through Konoha that always ends by the river. On Neji’s birthday, their tradition is a simple meal at home that always ends with a fun family games,

· What they do for each other on holidays: Sakura likes to get Neji a new Hanfu, which she usually picks out with help from Lee and Tenten, and she also loves to make him little treats to enjoy through out the day. Neji, on the other hand, likes to make Breakfast in bed for Sakura (which their kids help him with as they get older) and also enjoys getting her a bundle of pink flowers that he always leaves on her desk in the hospital for her to find during her shift.

· Where did they go for their honeymoon: They were given a trip to the land of Tea to visit some hot springs and relax, and on the way home they decided to stop off in a small town in the land of Fire and just stay in an Inn for a night enjoying each others company.

· Where did they first meet: Techniclly they met at the Chunin exams, but they actually properly met during a joint training session with Team Seven and Team Gai. They bonded over the fact that they felt like the only sane people on their teams some days. Neji tried to say Sakura was lucky cuz at least her Sensei was normal, but Sakura pointed out that her Sensei was a cruel troll and at least Neji has Tenten’s support in the ‘being normal’ section. They still argue about who’s right to this day.

· Any pets: A white cat with grey markings on its ears and nose that likes to roam around the house and sit on Neji’s lap most of the time when he’s home.

· What do they fight over: Not a lot. Usually food, because Sakura doesn’t always know what ‘too much spice’ is and Neji’s sort of weak against spice XD

· Do they go on vacations, if so where: When they can they love going on vacations, it’s just a matter of getting time off from work, but when they do manage it they love to just go exploring all sorts of places. Sometimes they’ll go to Suna to enjoy some familiar but still very different culture, and sometimes they’ll go to one of the other lands to see something a lot newer.

“Fiesty as ever,” He smirked lightly. “Are you always testy after shifts, or did something happen today?” He taunted a bit. He just wanted to test the waters. Naruto said she’d been snarky lately, but how bad could it be? 

    She set her jaw and forced a gulp. “If you need healing, just fucking ask.”

    Well, maybe he wasn’t exaggerating this time. The vehemence in her voice surprised him. It wasn’t like her, but what could he expect after what happened?

    He sighed before turning towards her fully. “I’m not asking for anything, I’m offering.”

    Sakura looked at him like he was ridiculous. What the hell could he offer her? No one ever had anything to give her. She didn’t ask him, or anyone else, for anything lately. Maybe she did want something, but there’s no one that could fix the past. She ran a hand through her hair before shaking her head.

        “Can’t offer me anything if I don’t need anything, Neji.” She kept her tone clipped and to the point. She lifted her dish and tipped it in his direction. “Got everything I need right here, thanks anyway.”

    Ino had warned against her sake habits. Something about not needing to be like Lady Fifth in every way. But she wasn’t. She had a pulse, she could breathe. Lady Fifth couldn’t do that… Not since four ago months anyway. And she didn’t gamble. What could a little sake really hurt? 

    She felt the stinging in her eyes then, and she blinked a few times, trying to force the tears away. She poured sake into her glass again before taking another drink. If she ignored Neji, would he go away? Most of the flirts did once she gave off the problem vibe, but he wasn’t a flirt. He was her captain.

    “Sakura…” The voice was soft and deep, and something about it made her know she couldtn’t look at him without her resolve breaking. “You need a release…”
