The degree to which I hate Mary Winchester right now is... I won't say unparalleled, but it's pretty damn potent.

The sheer amount of leniency being given to Mary here is so damn stupid. "She's our Mom" --- since when?!?! She stumbled back into life a few months back, leaves almost immediately, and promptly starts lying/working with torturers. Yes, amazing parenting. (Also, the argument that "we're biologically related to x so we owe them forgiveness for anything and everything" is a highly questionable one.)

And then there's the fact that Mary is consistently trivializing motherhood to being the standard role of caretaking. It's not like she came back and they immediately tried to shove her into an apron and relegate her to the kitchen. She tells them she can't cook? That Dean's memories of her meatloaf are just memories of grocery store takeout? There's a brief moment of adjustment, and then things go right back to normal. She cuts her hair? Great! Awesome practicality! (The only reason this goes sour is because she decides to go on a solo hunt with her bags already packed as a way of leaving without having to tell them she was leaving.)

Mary hasn't been a mother since she came back. She leaves the second the going gets tough, lies and manipulates her way around, and acts as though she deserves the Mother of the Year award in the process. (And, btw, this has barely even addressed the fact that she's working with BMOL, which has so much wrong with it that it should be a whole other post... broken ribs and burned feet is only scratching the surface.)

Regardless, it's not stupid or unfair or selfish for either brother to want their mom to actually be a mom, and it sickens me that the show (Mary, Sam, Dean, some combination of those, etc.) has decided that the brothers owe some deference/apology to their mom for acting like an atrocious parent.

Okay wait sorry hold on. I swear I’m not a Sam anti, but I’m mad at him again over Amy. He was so upset with Dean, for a long time, after he killed Amy. Then he turns around and hates on Dean’s relationship with Benny! Benny was arguably much more significant to Dean’s life than Amy was to Sam’s. And Sam gets pissy at Dean for him being angry at how he treated Benny!

Again how is Sam the smart one? This first scene really shows how much smarter dean is.

Why is exorcising the demon seeming like it’s supposed to be a bad thing? They literally can’t save the girl so it’s exorcise the demon from her (killing her) or leaving her to be used as a meat suit for potentially forever. It’s really not that bad to choose the exorcism.

Sam you are just like John wanting to kill this demon over everything including each others lives. Makes you think he would choose it over deans life too.

Also dean didn’t drag Sam from college to go on a mission kill the demon. He got him for one case to find their dad and then Sam chose to go on a mission to kill the demon after it killed Jess.

I also don’t really understand the point of Sam bringing up what John wants like he cares. Sam doesn’t care if it’s want John wants or not. Sam’s not bringing the colt because he doesn’t want to regardless of John.

Dean making all the right points: just like John, selfish, just wants revenge.

Sam only making good points afterward. Like if you really think “we can’t bring the gun because then well have no leverage and the demons will kill us” then why the fuck did you start with “can’t because revenge quest”?

I don’t want to hate Sam but Jesus they write him so poorly.

This acknowledgment of willing to do anything so much it scares you is a good first step to overcoming this toxic codependency. I don’t think they actually go through with it but there is potential here.

It’s funny in a really sad way that the tipping point in dean’s suspicions is John saying please.

my unpopular cas opinion is that castiel should have just gone full villain after sam and dean locked his son in the ma'lak box and made their lives a living nightmare, but that's only because i'm a whore for overprotective daddy cas.

S8 e17 Goodbye stranger scene deep dive.

11 min 12 seconds: Cas smites demon who was about to kill Sam.

11 min 20 seconds: Sam sits on sofa, not at all dead

11 min 34 seconds: Sam bitches at Cas : "you need to answer some questions...like where the hell have you been?"

No "thank you." No "nice to see you." Just hostility and entitlement, 20 seconds after his life was saved by Cas.

This hostility and suspicion (from both Dean and Sam--Dean kind of influenced Sam with that) all happened before Castiel did anything "bad" from their perspective. The only real reason of their hostility at this point: Castiel did not follow their lead but did his own thing.

7 seasons later Cas lamented, "You used to trust me, give me the benefit of the doubt". Never. They never did.

the way dean is calling it creepy that the angels are calling cas commander, as if cas hasn’t spoken before on how he was a commander of army’s.

the way the winchesters are acting like castiel is incompetent and incapable of leading angels or having a group of people who believe in him because he opened purgatory as if the reason cas had to resort to that was because the winchesters consistently acted like cas’ civil war was not important.

the way they disrespect so much of cas’ culture and family because they don’t like it is fucking gross.

overall the way they treat cas in 9.22 acting like they actually give a single fuck about those angels despite deans entire thing being on how he hates angels.

dean didn’t care for the angels cas was commanding, dean just didn’t like that cas had power and influence again and wanted to carry on punishing cas for past mistakes.
