Here's my submission for the @wincestwednesdays October Event Week 1, Prompt: "Demonic"!

Excerpt:

"'Is this…You couldn’t speak because I told you not to?” Sam asks. 'Like Ansem?”

Dean’s face twists, and he looks at Sam guiltily.

'No, c’mon.' He scoffs, shifting so his legs slide away from Sam’s into the passenger footwell. Sam blinks at him. Sam then looks straight ahead, at the steering wheel, uncomprehendingly.

Sam’s mind spins, unhinged from its moorings. He tries to think of every order he’s given Dean in the past six months. Hand me that. Scoot over. Shut up. Pass the remote. Go talk to the coroner. Turn it down. Kiss me."

Sam should have kept his powers. I know this point gets hammered home everytime I think about this show but he should have. I'm gonna be in my fucking 70s and I'll wake up in the middle of the night thinking to myself how fucked up it was that Sam didn't get to keep the powers.

The way I would have done it (and I'm cribbing off a few different people's ideas here) is Sam doesn't have access to his powers when his soul is missing and after he gets his soul back he can sort of tell that they aren't gone? But also like ummmm better just... shove that aside for now.... no need to be scratching at that wall!

And then the wall comes down and Sam is barely hanging onto his sanity so when he does get a vision he can't trust it. How does he know it's a vision and not just Lucifer tormenting him again? He doesn't. He has no idea what's real.

And then Cas takes his madness and okay welp..... still should probably just focus in the leviathan thing.... no need to scare Dean with his freaky visions and psychic weirdness. ("Sam you're avoiding the issue." "I'm compartmentlizing.")

And then Dean and Cas are in purgatory and Sam thinks they're dead and he's decided to try and move on with his life but then he gets a vision and he knows they aren't dead but has no idea how to find them. So he actually decided to use his powers in some way once again in order to save his brother.

He doesn't drink demon blood but he learns how to tap into his powers and draw them out without it. (Perhaps his souls time in the cage surrounded by all that angelic grace and demonic energy actually made his powers stronger? Idk makes as much sense as everything else) And it works and Sam is able to develop his abilities.

Like he can't really control the visions. But he does develop a sort of psychic sensitivity where he can kinda sense energies. So he can tell when non humans are around or when some magical nonsense is afoot. Also he gets a slightly better handle on the telekinesis stuff which still takes a lot of effort but he can do it once in a while.

(Then there's some drama where Dean thinks Sam went back to drinking demon blood and he's not sure he can trust his abilities but then Sam is like "you trust your vampire friend but not me?" Or something Idk man I hate the first half of season 8)

More importantly it means he and Jack can practice floating stuff around like a fatherly game of catch! And Dean has to put his foot down and implement the rule of no magic stuff at the dinner table.

Does it have to be just one? Ugh, okay. Um...

I want Sam's powers to be explored again. Like, I highly doubt it'll happen but it would be really interesting.

Speaking of unrealistic, I really want Benny back.

Realistically, though, I want Jack back, and I want a lot more of Sam and Jack's relationship.

Sam’s Little Secret

for @nanzm - a little nibble of an idea for Sam and his powers...

Sam thought he was alone. Dean had gone off for a beer run or something, so Sam figured he’d have plenty of time. He sat at the table in the kitchen flexing and unflexing his fingers. He watched as the chair slid slowly across the room. He smiled.

The power he felt whenever he did this was delicious. It was like a rush, a high, and he couldn’t get enough. Thing is, he had to keep it a secret. No way in hell Dean would approve of this. He’d been keeping it a secret for years. And he was getting really good at it.

Fortunately, he did not need any demon blood to do the things he did. He was able to do it on his own. At first, he needed emotions. Strong ones. He’d have to be angry or sad or scared. He wasn’t able to control them very well in the beginning, but now. Now. He was in control. He could easily move things with his mind. Sometimes using his hands helped him guide the objects, but usually he just used his thoughts.

He’d practice every time Dean left him alone, which wasn’t very often. His brother was always around. Which he enjoyed, obviously, but this feeling. When he used his powers. It was becoming addicting. He knew he’s have to hold back if he wanted to use his powers on a regular basis.

He spent the next hour moving chairs and floating grapes in the air. He groaned in delight as the endorphins rushed through his body. Sam wanted to explore more of his powers tonight, and tried to float himself into the air. Which he managed to do after a few tries. He really, really enjoyed it.

He was so caught up in his practice that he didn’t hear the impala drive up.

Minutes later, just on the other side of the door, Dean’s mouth opened in shock and he dropped the bag of oranges on the floor.

Thinking about 13x03, the one that apparently has Missouri and her granddaughter in it, and, okay, temporarily putting away my wayward sisters squee in a box for later and focusing on the guys again... :p

Thing #1-- So at first I was thinking about when Cas might come back—or rather, when he might start to come back since, according to Misha Collins, it happens “slowly”—and because the show sometimes resolves part of its end-of-season cliffhangers in the third episode of the following season (like demon!Dean being cured in 10x03, for example), I was thinking we might see him in 13x03. Then I thought, “No, that’s the episode with Missouri and Patience, so Cas wouldn’t necessarily fit into that—WAIT.”

Obviously this is just spec. But. Back in s10 we met a psychic who had the same mind-reading powers as Missouri and who could also contact the dead. Can Missouri do the same thing? Wouldn’t it be neat if she did? We could have a conversation between Cas, Dean and Sam, mediated by Missouri. Maybe the guys come back into her life for the first time after thirteen years for exactly that reason—maybe they’re looking for someone who can do such a thing? And then Patience arrives and the main plot of the episode gets going…

Thing #2-- PSYCHICS. And SAM. And SAM’S POWERS. The last time we saw Missouri, Sam’s psychic abilities were starting to manifest. They discuss it:

MISSOURI: Sam, I’m sorry. SAM: For what? MISSOURI: You sensed it was here, didn’t you? Even when I couldn’t. SAM: What’s happening to me? MISSOURI: I know I should have all the answers, but I don’t know.

I really, really hope the subject comes up again, especially now that Sam does know what was happening to him, and now that he’s coming to accept that his powers didn’t make him evil and that they just made him who he was. It seems like Jack is going to be a mirror for Sam in a lot of ways, Hell-given (um, Hell-associated?) abilities included, so I imagine that Sam will be reflecting on his own powers. (JP said at SDCC that Jack’s presence might make Sam start thinking about that again, didn’t he? I’m just not sure if he meant it as, “Sam will do this” or “Sam might do this,” so I’m not going to hang a whole prediction on it. This is still just spec.) Getting back in touch with another psychic like Missouri—and meeting another budding psychic like Patience, whose situation might be similar to the situation that season one Sam was in—could add to that self-reflection in a really nice way. Sort of like with Magda, only… hopefully with less murder.

And I’d also love him to still be able to tap into that psychic power to some degree—and to do something good with it, and to realize that he doesn’t have to be afraid of using it and that it’s not going to “taint” him or anything like that, etc etc, augh. I keep hoping for something like that, and it hasn’t happened yet, but I’m going to keep hoping, haha
