let me set the scene: sam realises he's queer in college but then can never mention or do anything about it around dean because he's sure dean has internalised john's homophobia (sidenote: there's so much sadness in the idea of him becoming comfortable with himself and being fully out of the closest but then having to go back in to join dean hunting).

but then they discover the roadhouse in s2 and not only is it the first sense of community sam has felt since stanford, it's the first time he's met queer people since stanford. he and ash instantly hit it off because they both love laptoppin' it up, researching and gathering evidence and pulling things together. sam is the kind of person to find intelligence VERY attractive so he takes one look at mullet genius ash and sees a queer dude with a sky high IQ and is instantly besotted about it.

now for the action: ash is a rampant homosexual and when the two incredibly handsome winchesters rock up at the roadhouse he sure isn't gonna complain. he instantly digs dean's gender and so flirts with him at the start but as ash and sam spend more time together in ash's back room, he grows to like sam's bitchy wit and cheeky smile more than dean's repressed macho thing. and so they get closer and closer over time and sam is able to be openly queer with someone again <3 ash encourages sam to grow his hair out more and to cut the sleeves off his shirt and sam cuddles ash like he's a baby bird in his arms and it's very sweet

i think dean and jo go off on roadtrips and work through their queer realisations together, and then come back to the roadhouse and pretend like they were just flirting the whole time to hide it. sam and ash on the other hand spend the entire time making out in ash's back room, and when dean and jo get back pretend they were just researching the entire time. little do they know all of them are queer and hiding it from the other, with old gays ellen and bobby watching this all with growing amusement

as dean becomes more comfortable with his queer realisations he starts flirting with ash more, who finds it funny and also gets into it. this then begins a comedy reminiscent of shakespeare's as ash is simultaneously both dean and sam's boy bestie with benefits without either brother knowing. this ends with both brothers coming out to the other at the same time, with ash having organised it all. and curtain
