3. Craziest vital sign/lab result you've ever seen?

Vital sign: Babies with SVT and a heart rate in the 300s - happened more than once and is scary as fuck!!

Lab results: I work in ped onc so I have a lot of these: hemoglobin of 2 (normal: 11-12), white cell count of ZERO (normal: 5k+), I weekly have platelets count as low as 2k (normal: 150k) - once I had 3 kids in the ward and adding all of their platelets together it didn't get to 10k lol

9. Are there any situations on your personal 'what makes Mateo vomit' scale? what are they?

I have a pretty strong stomach tbh. Never threw up at work. In college, the smell of melena (very bloody poop) and diabetic feet overwhelmed me easily, but as a pediatrician I thankfully don't see a lot of those anymore. I am very very ok with poop and babies/little kid's vomit, but older kids/teen's vomit make me nauseous.

Back in the times I attended births sometimes we got sprayed with urine (specially baby boys), but I'm proud to say that in my almost 6 years since I finished college I only got vomited on ONCE!

15. Stupidest thing a patient has said to you?

Not a patient but his father. A 2yo was vomiting at home and kinda coughing after (to clean up his throat, it seemed). The father then decided to give him a cough medicine. The one he had at home was in drops, and the right amount to the kid would be 10 drops. This fine specimen of homo sapiens "remembered" that the dose was actually 2,5ml (no, he didnt look up or anything, just winged it). But this was (also wrong) the dose for the medicine in cough syrup form. He got a syringe and put the medicine drop by drop until it reached 2,5ml (50 drops), and gave to the boy. Who didn't vomit (it would be so much better if he did)

The mother arrived at home, panicked and brought the boy to the ER, because he got basically 5x the actual dose and it was a medicine that could cause drownsiness, heart palpitations, tachycardia, etc. I had to call poison control and monitorize him for a whole afternoon. The boy was fine. I hope the mom considered a divorce.
