sam/josh, in the shadow of two gunmen pt. 1 & 2
I think Josh Lyman should be allowed to kiss boys. Similarly, I think Donna Moss should be allowed to kiss girls.

pre-2015 west wing pride recs!
In honor of the last day of @twwpride, here's a list of some incredible queer tww fics on AO3 that are more than eleven years old (and thus pre-Obergefell!) and have less than a hundred kudos. Because reading older fics is fun!
10,000 sunsets by voleuse. 2006. Amy/Donna. 1k words. Getting together. Clever, bright, poetic, with a great lens on both of them.
night sky in manchester by Sybill. 2014. Abbey/CJ. 1k words. AU where Jed dies at Rosslyn, but not overwhelmingly sad. Pre-relationship. Slow and steady.
I hold with those who favor fire by internationalprincess. 2002. Amy/Andy. 2k words. Introspective, sharp, biting. After this fic it was twenty years before anyone else published for this pairing.
Out of Order by candle_beck. 2011. Sam/Josh. 1k words. Nonlinear narrative, interesting creative structure. This author produced a lot of influential samjosh in the early 2010s.
the rhythm of in betweens. by furies. 2005. Mandy/CJ, Mandy/Josh. 6k words. Character study. A must-read if you have ever wished the show gave Mandy even an inch of the depth she deserved. (Be aware: there is some untagged dubcon.)
Live Free Or Die by jjtaylor. 2010. Josh/Sam, Josh/Matt. 2k words. This is cheating because it has 104 kudos but really you round down on a four so. Double-campaign fic of your dreams.
Thine Is The Kingdom by Delightfully Eccentric. 2005. Jed/Leo. 2k words. AU where Jed not only became a priest, he became a cardinal. Poignant. Balancing out the above fic because this one only has four kudos.
Thin Fire by Luna. 2004. Ellie/Winifred Hooper. 3k words. Reflects on Ellie's sexuality and relationship to religion. Takes place during Zoey's kidnapping and doesn't shy away from that, so be warned.
Missionary Positions by andchimeras. 2002. Ann Stark/Mary Marsh. 1k words. Another religion fic; fascinating, though again certainly not light.
The Fund for Distressed Donkeys by Jackie_Thomas. 2013. Sam/Josh. 3k words. I've cheated again this has 200 kudos but after all that in a row I wanted to pick something that had a happy ending. Read this and be happy.
A lot of older tww fic isn't on AO3 at all, so this list is shamefully short. If you have a gem saved somewhere, feel free to send it to me!
And - Happy Pride!
