A/N: Is it Steve's birthday? No. Did I have a lot of fun writing this? Yes!

Sam just wants Steve to have a good birthday away from all his Captain American duties.

One of Sam’s love languages is sharing, sharing memories, sharing experiences, and food even. It makes Steve and Sam perfect together as Sam introduces Steve to worlds of different things.

"Have you ever been to IHop," Sam asks looking to the ceiling, still in bed on July the 4th, with no real plans of moving.

Steve laughs rolling on his side so he can look at his boyfriend "No I have not, Tony always said it was like discount breakfast." 

Sam hums at the comment still looking at the roof. "We could go if you want?" Steve offers but Sam shakes his head rolling over to now look back into Steve's eyes "it's your birthday, I shouldn't be the one making the decisions. Where do you want to go for breakfast?" Steve laughs moving closer, covers surrounding them. 

He hugs Sam, head resting on the man's chest, "mimosas and brunch, we should invite the team." Sam smiles at the kindness Steve still has, even on his birthday he wants to share the day. 

Share it more than just with America (which from a war veteran's point of view is a big day). "I'll text the group chat," Sam goes to grab his phone. That’s another thing Sam likes to do, share with the whole group all of the Avengers he loves team training and movie nights, he likes to share. 

"hmm, later," Steve says continuing to curl into the arms Sam places around him. 

Sam laughs just maybe not sharing Steve, "if I text later they won't know." ‘urghhh,’ is the small response he gets back, Steve is clearly tired and done with the conversation already. "Just un-koala m for 2 seconds so I can tell them brunch and mimosas on 7th street, 11am?" Steve does as said and unhooks moving away and grabbing one of the spare pillows instead. Sam is highly offended "don't just replace me! It's only a text!"  

Steve pokes his tongue out, "it's my birthday," he mumbles snuggling back into the pillow and if that doesn't make Sam rush the text, spelling mistake be dammed, the team will figure it out. 

He hooks his leg over Steve, grabbing the pillow and throwing it to the side of the bed for Figaro to snatch at and sleep on, ever the cat-dog she is. "I love you," Steve mumbles onto Sam's lips "I love you too," Sam smiles, "birthday boy." Steve snoring along, warmed nicely head in Sam’s lap, Sam’s fingers in Steve’s hair. This is what he deserves, it’s what he loves.

The Story of Figaro and Captain

Smiling Sam watches as Steve foes from cage to cage looking through all the puppies in the animal shelter. While he is smiling the idea of getting a pet is slightly unsettling to Sam. When they had visited Rhodey last week hadn’t expected to meet Alpine, and he certainly didn’t expect to love the white cat, he also didn’t realise how much it had helped both Rhody and Bucky.

“Sam! Look at how adorable he is!” Steve yells over the excitement of dogs yipping at the two men in the shelter. He didn’t expect that Steve might want a dog to help in the same way that Alpine helps. 

Sam knows how much animals can help from his time as a therapist but he never had the room and always had 20 excuses for why he wouldn’t get a pet. Now Steve and he have a backyard and a two-story house, they live in suburbia with dog parks a short walk from the house. “He’s great Steve,” Sam says kneeling down next to the man and putting his hand out to the larger dog, “do we have space for such a big dog?”

The ‘big’ dog in question is a golden retriever which somehow makes sense for Steve, shooting his partner a look Steve rolls his eyes, Sam can’t get it out of his head that they have actually moved on they have a house and stable jobs. They are also in love which is nice. Steve stops patting the dog for a moment to put his hand on Sam’s shoulder, “you know we have enough space now, he would do great in the backyard,” and Sam does know this.

Patting the dog again theirs a small whine from behind them and Sam turns to see a black cat, a very adorable black cat. Sam puts his hand out for the cat to smell and understand that Sam is anything but dangerous. The cat purrs as Sam pats her, “sorry,” the woman attending them apologises bending down with Sam towards the cat, “these guys are best friends,” she laughs gesturing to the dog. 

It seems perfect for Sam the combination of the four of them, he leans his head on Steve’s shoulder, “how would you feel about having a cat and a dog,” he whispers lightly to not disturb the two best friends. 

Steve nods along, knowing that his life is great and these two would just make it better, “I think that’s a great idea.”

That is the story of how Figaro and Captain found a home together.
