"You bind me to the light and i bind you to power"
Sauron, about the Elvish Rings of Power: okay, hold on, time out. that’s not fair. if they’re allowed to shoot energy beams using the power of friendship, i should be able to summon a monster using the power of divorce
“They say that Morgoth found the Silmarils so beautiful that after he’d stolen them, for weeks he could do nothing but stare into their depths. It was only after one of his tears fell upon the jewels and he was faced with the evil of his own reflection that the reverie was finally broken. From that moment, he looked upon their light no more. Fëanor's work nearly turned the heart of the Great Foe himself…” — Celebrimbor, RoP E2, “Adrift”
Okay I know other people have mentioned this but like, Morgoth almost had his heart turned by staring at the Silmarils...
Which were inspired by Galadriel...
I sense a parallel here. 👀 Only Sauron does get his heart all a flutter (if not “turned” from evil) by the actual Galadriel, and not just her beauty and light—her darkness, too.
You're gone, gone, gone away I watched you disappear All that's left is a ghost of you Now we're torn, torn, torn apart There's nothing we can do Just let me go, we'll meet again soon
Saurgal X Little Talks
The rings of power really went: we need to tie the story of arguably one of the most powerful women in the lore to two men and devalue her into an underdog, because we cannot conceive a woman being powerful and independent.
They really went: her character motivation will revolve around her dead brother (whos characterisation we butchered completely btw) and her literal worst enemy who we will make a love interest for her, because enemies to lovers is popular with the 14 year olds on tiktok.
It feels like misogyny under the guise of womens empowerment.
Like, yeah she was a warrior and a leader. She has POLITICAL POWER. But the people around her treat her like a teenager. Like the writers can't conceive a woman who does not have to claw and struggle to be heard.
Pisses me off
Guess which one is my phone background.
Sauron: I love you. Galadriel: It'll pass.
Annatar: No matter what, I’d still do you. Galadriel: That’s sweet. [to Celebrimbor] Jar. Celebrimbor: [passes the “Douchebag Jar” for Annatar to put a dollar in]
