An alien (Chiwetel Ejiofor) crashes deep into the oil fields of New Mexico with a mission: he has eight hours to find the one woman on earth (Naomie Harris) who can save his species. Together they discover that in order to save his world, they must first save ours.

*The plot of the first episode has many similarities to the movie Starman (1984). For example, the spacecraft crashing in a remote area, the 'alien' (male) transforming into a more acceptable human form, the female helper/driver, the stilted language, the urgent need for a rendezvous in the remote western desert, the interaction with guns, and so on.

In her debut series, Mei Pieh Chi's (Venus') culture & past were barely explored. The Next Mutation just didn't spend much time establishing her home or her father. Since she loses those so suddenly and so profoundly, it has to have had an enormous impact on her character and her perspective.

In Balance The Scales, my 2012 AU/mashup fic, the post-season-5-ish Turtles have also experienced an incredible loss. Their own father died violently not too long ago. So many of the big adventures that dominated their lives for so long are concluded. An aspect of directionlessness permeates their home.

The parallel losses of their father figures and their way of life will provide an understanding between Venus and the 2012 turtles even through barriers of language and culture.

That's what I'm excited to share: finding, against all odds, family again.

But also, they wreck a whole cargo ship and learn to fight with qi energy and they battle a god-tier dragon, so those are cool, too, I guess. 😉

Water Bottles

I personally know many people that are interested in doing things to help the environment, but don’t want to go the extreme of all-natural zero-waste everything. A very simple thing anyone can do to help the environment is to stop drinking out of disposable water bottles. It’s an easy switch to grab a metal water bottle and just refill it each day and throughout the day. Also, you can get metal water bottles that will keep you drink hot or cold, which is a perk. It’s such a simple change to make for those of you interested in lessening the plastic impact on our planet and if that’s till seems a bit much for your current situations, or if you do ever find yourself need water and the only option being a disposable water bottle, you can refill that bottle for the day instead of buying multiple. Anything, even that small, will help. It all adds up. More posts to come on eliminating plastic waste in simple ways...
