so, growing up, my family went on a lot of road trips as a part of my parents goal of visiting all 50 states. yeah, ive been to all of them, but, a decent amount of them are when i was really young. and my mother was a piece of shit so there goes even more memories. hut, when . when we were on teh west cosst my family went to the santa barbara police dept and my dad and brother took pictures outside of it. “its the exterior they use for psych” i hadn’t watched it yet. i didnt get what the big deal was. i just sat in the car

s5e14 - The not-so Henry Rant (I will get there):

Before I start taking about Henry, I want to talk about the way the show frames his and Shawn’s relationship like a fucking joke.

“I can’t help but wonder what our lives might’ve been like if you’d just stayed wherever the hell you were and not come back to Santa Barbara five years ago”

“Wow. Maybe I just shouldn’t of come back”

The cut to, the intro, all bright and cheering with snowflakes and stalkings added on for extra fun.

Reply the conversation while Shawn is nodding off in a chair in the office (I’m like 80% sure he doesn’t live in the laundry mat anymore and is technically homeless) just got him to wake up in a dream where it’s snowing in his office and start talking to a painted snowman of Gus as if it was actually Gus and then talk to what I assume is supposed to be a famous actor (I do not watch a lot of anything, I have a small list of show and movies I play on repeat and rarely branch out, I’m sorry) about “self discovery” like this is somehow Shawn’s fault. I was seriously losing my fucking mind at this point and I was barely even a quarter through the episode. Speaking off like it was Shawn’s fault:

Famous dude: “But you mostly deserved it”

Me: trying on to combust.

Now, we see Henry in complete disarray because he pushed everyone in his life away and that’s typically how that pays out, and I’m thinking, okay, we could be serious about this for once, showing Henry in the bad light he deserves is a good step, and then Mr. Famous dude pops my bubble and reminds me that ten narrative does not give a shit about the fact that Shawn was abused and Henry is a sack of garbage.

“You do realize you’re pulling all the strings in these dreams. You did this to make yourself feel better. It’s embarrassing.”

Oh my fucking god! What is even the point then!? Seriously!? “yOu’Re pULLinG aLL tHe sTRinGs” then drop the “we can talk about Henry and Shawn’s relationship” act and go back to solving case. I swear to god.

Now the rest of the dream is unimportant to this particular issue as much as I would LOVE to talk about it (maybe after my Henry specific rant). As well as the following real world events involving the case (again, I would LOVE to talk about it, especially his talks with Gus and Lassiter). But back to the topic I this rant, dream number two, here we come.

“Maybe in his own way he’s still protecting you. And maybe he’s enjoying working with you on the process. You ever think of that.”

As someone with an outside perspective, no, I did not think of that, and Shawn shouldn’t either. I’m sure Henry believes he’s “protecting”Shawn, but Henry also believes that never letting Shawn take karate was “protecting” and I already debunked that, confirmed by a martial arts instructor who reblogged my post. I don’t really care what Henry thinks, since he’s doing a pretty shitty job and he’s not even self reflecting like Shawn is, Henry can kiss my ass.

Also, point two, the only thing Henry is enjoying “working with Shawn” is not letting Shawn on any cases. Also he is NOT working with Shawn, he’s he’s in charge of hiring Shawn, he’s his boss, there is no “working with” there’s just a power dynamic which is the absolute LAST thing their relationship needed. It is high time Henry get off his high horse and realize that Shawn is an adult and can make his own decisions, which Henry is not leading by being appointed in a position above Shawn. That work dynamic is extremely unhealthy for this pair and should have been reviewed by HR or internal affairs, or whoever. Henry is unfit for that position because he refuses to look at cases with an open mind while considering putting Shawn on them and only considers if it will teach Shawn a lesson. This is literally canon, Henry has said it out loud multiple times. He should be fired.

And that’s all for the narrative making a mockery of abuse (this time), I will talk about Shawn getting Henry his job back in my next, Henry focused, post.

You giggled while raising up your goggles. Abby, your former colleague but remaining friend, was video calling you. She had been rambling about how much she didn’t like change.

“Abby,” you calmly stated. “Yeah?” “Breathe.” “Sorry,” she replied before slowly letting out some breath. “Now, just because I moved doesn’t mean we won’t be friends,” you reassured her, “Besides, now you all have a reason to visit California.” Abby chuckled. “Like that’ll ever happen. Gibbs only takes a break if he is forced to.” You raised a brow. “So, you’re saying I fake a Naval crime scene?” “See? This is why we’re best friends. We think alike.” You chuckled. “Only sometimes...Or do you not remember the Great Debate of Tony’s Gate?” “Hey! He tried to Abby-proof everything!” “No, he was keeping you from working a case you were too close to.” “Is there a difference?”

You chuckled. A ding went off on a separate computer. You opened the alert and knit your brows. You turned toward Abby.

“Hey Abs, I gotta go. A case just popped up.” She pouted. “Okay.” “Tell the others hello and I miss them. I’ll talk to you later.” “Bravo Yankee Echo.” You smirked. “Bravo Yankee Echo.”

The screen went blank. You let out a sigh and glanced around. Your new lab was a lot less than the one at NCIS, but it was yours. You loved Abby to death, but she could get territorial...as could you. It didn’t keep you from missing them.

“I said to stop calling me that, Shawn!” a random voice yelled from the hallway. “What? It’s a cool nickname! Chicks dig it.”

Shrugging, you moved over and opened the file you were sent. A couple of photographs needed to be both enhanced and authenticated. Along with that was some sounds clips. You smirked; you loved messing with sounds. Finally, there was a picture of a fingerprint with a statement that it’d be brought down.

“Hello, hello,” a voice called.

You jumped slightly while turning toward your door. It seemed the two voices from the hall had been heading toward you. The man who came in second was glaring at the first man.

“H-Hello,” you stuttered.

New people. You forgot you’d be meeting new people.

“My name is Shawn and this is my partner-” “Gus,” he interrupted while nudging Shawn. “We’re still in the police station. We don’t need to make up names.” Shawn pouted slightly. “Fine.” He turned back toward you. “What happens to be your all star name?” You arched a brow. “Uh...Y/N.”

Shawn clapped his hands and pointed at you.

“See. All star. Called it. I’m gonna get your autograph before you become famous.” You felt your cheeks flush. “N-No. I’m, I’m not-” “Of course you are!” Shawn fought back, “You can get the highest science-y award out there.” “He means the Forensic Engineering Award,” Gus helped out. He quirked a brow. “Are you new?” You nodded. “Yeah. Transfer from DC.”

Shawn and Gus shared an impressed look. Shawn turned back to you with a puzzled look on his face.

“Why did you decide to move out here? I doubt it was because of the pay.” You lowered your gaze. “Well, uh, I just...I’ve got family out here and I um, I missed them.” Shawn nodded his head. “Yeah. Makes total sense. Not a huge fan of my own dad, but Gus has a fantastic family.” “You know that’s right.” “Are you settling in well?” “Yeah. Haven’t met a lot of people yet.” Shawn smiled. “Are we the first people you’ve met?” “Uh no. Actually, an Officer McNab showed me where I needed to go.” “Buzz? Oh he’s a great friend of ours,” Shawn chittered.

You smiled. You really appreciated these two already. You still had no idea who they were, but they were genuinely interested. It reminded you of how Gibbs, Abby, and Ducky had welcomed you to NCIS. Less energy, but still authentically.

“But hey,” Shawn started up again, “we could throw you a little welcome party here. Well not here...in the station. That would really kill the mood, huh.” Gus shook his head before returning his attention to you. “That sound okay?” You softly smiled at the pair. “Yeah. That sounds great.”
