Battles & Birthdays [Part 2]

“Every time there’s a full moon I always think of my dad. I just picture how agonising those transformations must have been or I wonder how it would have been growing up with a werewolf as a father. And I... talk to him.”

A wave of guilt rises inside of her as her mind is flooded with delicate blue letters her own mother sends her every Friday.

There’s silence between them, which neither of them knows how to fill.

Although she nods, Victoire feels uncertain if she really wants to hear his answer.

Victoire wonders where Teddy had been storing that memory since it was one she had long forgotten.

Vic could feel her breath catch in her throat at his words, her head leaning into his touch subconsciously. His hand is cool against her warm cheek and his usually rough fingers feel almost delicate.

In an attempt to forget Teddy’s bright laugh, she forces herself to notice that it has finally stopped raining.

The Last Conversation

It’s funny, she had expected her to cry. Siri had always been a crier, at everything really. Her sister was the world’s biggest drama queen.

It takes a moment for what Regulus said to register with Sirius. But that moment of silence was quickly replaced by her wrath.

How dare she?! How DARE she?! Did she honestly forget all the times she took the blame for her actions and in turn bore her punishment? She never expected a thank you, she never asked for one. But this?!

There’s that word again. Two can play that game.

Sirius: You only do whatever mummy tells you.

Sirius sneers at Regulus and begins to walk away. For some reason, she thought she’d feel good about getting the last word, but she didn’t. A deep heaviness settled in her chest as she began to leave.

It wouldn’t be for another two and a half years until they talked to one another again. Though talking was a flexible term. They acknowledged each other’s presence in battle and threw a snarky insult here and there, but it couldn’t be considered “talking”. Perhaps this is why Sirius considered this the last conversation she had with her sister.
