   We had the chance to chat with the Rita Ng, owner of Boston Bonbon and learn about her business. 

So, what's the store behind Boston Bonbon?

Baking has always been a passion for me.  I enjoy making cookies and cakes for friends and family.  And a trip to France many years ago made me fall in love with French macarons and European pastries, and I started to get into finding out how to make this difficult treat!

Tell us a little about you and your team?

Currently, it is mainly a 1-person company but we are planning to get more part time help from internship program soon.

What is your advice for making a perfect macaron?

Patience is key.  Making macaron is kinda like an art, you cannot rush it.

Advice for budding food entrepreneurs?

You really have to LOVE what you do because it is definitely something that requires a lot of your time and you might not see the results of your hard work immediately.  If you are interested in the food industry, but not sure whether it is something that is for you, maybe you can try taking an internship with some food entrepreneurs and try it out first.

What are next steps for your company? How are you planning to grow?

We are selling our French macarons at some gourmet stores like Allandale Farm in Brookline and Needham Fine Wine (http://www.needhamcenterfinewines.com/), and we are going to be at the Somerville Winter Indoors market (https://www.facebook.com/SomervilleWinterFarmersMarket?sk=wall) on Jan 31 and Mar 8. Hack Urban Food organized by Branchfood in Boston

Introducing a local marketplace by ScanKart

For the past two months, we have received a lot of great feedback from you guys and with our latest iOS app update we are bringing in some exciting changes that will be critical in our vision to strengthen local commerce. 

Introducing a hyper-local marketplace by ScanKart where you can discover artisanal and specialty food, wine and coffee producers and grocery stores in your area and be able to shop from them from the palm of your hands!

IMPROVED USER EXPERIENCE

We paid attention to how people are using the app and what difficulties they were facing while using the app. So we went back to the drawing board, took a leaf out of the Apple's user interface guidelines and restructured our app to introduce tabbed navigation. The bottom tabs helps the user understand the exact context under which he/she is navigating through the app. We will have a post soon about the technical details of the app.

Prepay directly from your phone and get items delivered straight to your doorstep. No waiting in checkout lines. Same day delivery as well as pickup options available for select stores. Enter credit card information just once. Payments are handled securely!

SCAN & BUY

As always, all the products available on ScanKart have been automatically enabled for easy re-ordering. Just scan the product barcode or our proprietary "Scan & Buy" QR code and place the order in just few taps.

PROFILE & HISTORY

The Me tab contains all the things related to .. well ... You! Manage your profile information, payment & shipping options from here. You can also view your past scans & purchases from here so you can remember which wine you purchased last time around or what was the Costa Rican coffee you loved!

Turtle Creek Winery launches on ScanKart platform.

Turtle Creek is a small scale winery nestled in the shadow of Boston. Its slogan is "Classic Wines from Noble Grapes in a Dangerous neighborhood". They produce around 1000 cases of wine per year and include plantings such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Riesling. They also source ultra premium wine grapes from select growers in Finger Lakes, NY and California and don't make wine from hybrid grapes. Kip Kumler is the owner of Turtle Creek and his entrepreneurial journey to become a winemaker is very interesting. He left his business profession in 1997 and jumped into wine making without having any prior knowledge or preparation and has been producing world class handcrafted wines ever since. Even though it is a small scale operation, Kip thrives to be on the leading edge of innovation to produce the best possible wine in most unforgiving weather in the North East. If you fancy great local wine then make sure to find Turtle Creek at your neighborhood Farmer's Markets. 

We are extremely proud that Turtle Creek Winery has chosen ScanKart as its platform to enable a new channel for direct to consumer distribution.
