Scarecrow Week 2024

For the seventh year in a row, I am hosting Scarecrow Week! This is a time for us fans to celebrate the Master of Fear, the Duke of Despair, the Lord of Terror, Jonathan Crane! I’ve come up with a whole week’s worth of prompts to inspire you. All types of content is welcome and you don't have to follow the prompts, they're just for fun!, Fanfic, artwork, edits, memes, whatever--it's welcome!! Show you love of Scarecrow however you like! Just keep your submissions safe for work please! Aside from that rule, go wild! (and if you feel you can’t complete the prompts in October, late OR early entries are accepted!)

Scarecrow Week Day 3: Farm Life

So, I actually live on an old farm, and trust me, it's SUPER eerie at night! I just imagine a poor, traumatized, Year one Jon, trying his best to be brave as he walks through his great-grandmother’s old farm in the dead of night.

For the prompt “Anime” I went and inserted Jon into an anime I loved as an edgy teen: Tokyo Ghoul!

For Scarecrow Week day 1, I shall talk about BTAS, my favorite animated appearance of Jon. One of the main reasons on why he’s my favorite is that his backstory is very different. While many Crane’s are given sad and abusive origin stories, BTAS’s backstory can be simply summed up to, “This guy is just an extra asshole.” We’re not given enough info to be able to justify his actions which in turn leaves his origin very open to an individual’s own interpretation. Not every villain has to have an upsetting backstory to justify their actions. Sometimes they’re just..evil. And that’s that. 

We are given the opportunity to sympathize and feel bad for BTAS through the episode titled, “Lock-Up” and through the tie in comics as well. When I watched “Lock-Up,” for the first time, I was instantly sympathizing with BTAS. Seeing him, the freaking Scarecrow, shake with fear and plea with Batman to not bring him back to Arkham. Before then, I didn’t sympathize with him until that episode. Seeing Jonathan and the other inmates go through the hell that was Lyle Bolton’s employment at Arkham broke me. 

And then my other favorite aspect of BTAS. All of his iconic lines. His lines throughout the show are awesome and never fail to make me laugh! 

“There’s enough powder in that helmet to panic a pachyderm!”

“WORSHIP ME FOOLS! WORSHIP ME!”

“Inducing terror has always intrigued me. Even as a boy, I liked to frighten things. People, animals, it was all the same.”

BTAS will always be one of my favorite Cranes. I don’t do very much for him on my blog but I’m hoping to change that here soon.
