I was able to get the aluminum welded and sanded. I've blued the body of the blade and added a spike to the end of the handle. A 10.5" Red River Bowie. This is one of the blades from a previous post, it is a water quenched 5160 blade.This is one of the sharpest knives that I've made yet!! I changed my tempering process a little and boy what a difference in performance! I'm feeling a bit sheepish this morning. Yesterday I picked up a new ceramic 10K stone and a strop because I realized this week that my combo whetstone was not 4K/8K like I thought, but rather 1K/4K. For over a year I thought my tools were "sharp". Well, after spending last evening sharpening all my chisels and plane blades to 10K plus a light stropping, even my cheapest #4 is ejecting shavings with ease. I can't believe I'd gone this long without tools that's were actually sharp!! Especially ironic listening to the latest @finewoodworkingmagazine #shoptalklive episode while I plane this morning and hearing @kenney.matt and @pekovichwoodworks voices in my head...
