How exactly does scenting work? Like, what parts of the body do you use to scents others with and how do you do it? I know theirs a scent gland on the neck, but do you just nuzzle someone? What are the procedures for scenting when it comes to relationships?

I’ve done Scenting posts/answers before. Under the Tag “Scenting” , “Scents” etc. 

Scenting : Rubbing people/items on/with the Scent Glands.

Scenting is also inhaling another’s scent in a nuzzling fashion. 

Can be used as a greeting / good bye to friends/family.

The body part used most of the time is the ones on the wrists and the neck.

There isn’t really a procedure, it’s just something they do with someone they are familiar with.

How do alphas and omegas scent, like how do they do it? Do they kinda rub their hands on things?

Depending on your AU and where the Scent Gland is located on the body, Yes, they just “Kinda rub their hands on things”.  

In my HCs, the Scent Glands are located on the neck, the wrists, and inner thighs. Though, a Dynamic would only scent with their wrists or neck. 

Sometimes, they’d just rub their writs on the item or  rub the item on their neck. For clothes, wearing the item will be fine. Granted anything the Dynamic owns will slowly get their scent attached to it. 

To scent other Dynamics, usually rubbing (or nuzzling, I guess) the other (or they can do it to each other at the same time). Personal space isn’t a thing when this happens. 

Though, if they’re not very close maybe a quick whiff of the wrist.

Something I've always been confused about is scenting, specifically how it is done/works biologically/physiologically. When a scent changes, is it a conscious change? Can a person control their scent? Or is it mostly not direct, conscious control? Hope this makes sense

How it’s done: Rubbing people/items on the Scent Glands.

It’s both(conscious and unconscious), really. Depends on the person. And AU. Some people have less control over their emotions and such while others are masters. Some AU’s have it, where no one has complete control over it. They may look calm and collected on the outside but they emit a very specific scent.

Scenting is an action perform by Dynamics on other Dynamics and objects. It’s a way of temporary claiming that person or object. It’s as an intimate action and a greeting.

Omegas and Scented Items

In my headcannon, I see Omegas having a number one favorite item. Most popular is an article of clothing, like a jacket/hoodie. Or maybe a special pillow or blanket!

After a long day, first thing they are going to do is grab that special item and wear it, cuddle it, or wathever.

When they are younger, they tend to bring the item with them to school or outings with the family. Makes things easier for them.

Over time, their nest is a collection filled with favorite comfy items.

When an Omega takes an interest in an Alpha or Beta, they may receive an item from them or bring said Alpha or Beta an item to scent. Then they would carry the item around, cuddle it, and/or add it to their nest.

And once the scent wears off, they will go and get it re-scented.

It can almost be seen as a pre-claiming, since the Alpha or beta has their scent on their Omega.

If the Omega loses the itme, they will become very upset, may even start panicking. They'll turn the ouse upside down to look for it.

Panicking will have the Omega give off an upsetting scent, that would let others know that they are upset. It'll upset the other residents of hte house and they will try to do everything they can to make the Omega happy again. This can happen anywhere.

Once the item is found, all is well! They may spend the next few moments (or hours) scenting the item and cuddling it. At least their scent is back to normal, calming and all that.

Alpha and Scented Items

Just some headcannons about Alphas and Scented items! Whoo!

An Alpha may or many not have a favorite item that they carry around at all times. To each their own.

Alphas would scent an object that an Omega or Beta would bring to them. If the Omega or Beta brings them more than one item, the Alpha will scent all the items.

If the Alpha is unmated and more than one Omega or Beta brings an item to be scented by the Alpha, the Alpha will scent all the items. They won't say no.

If they smell another Alpha's scent, a scent they are not familar with, on their item, it will trigger the Alpha and upset them.

They would find the Alpha who attempted to place their claim on their item and would be willing to fight them.

If the other Alpha is no where nearby, they will wait until they see them again to confront them.

If the Alpha has a special Omega or Beta in mind, they may give them an already scented item, or subtly scent one of the Omega's/Beta's items. Oops Lol

Alpahs would scent their significant other's person as a way to claim/mark them in a non-biting fashion.

Alphas would overly scent them if they feel like their claim was challenged by another Alpha.
