Bruce Sterling
--士郎正宗 專欄隨筆「THE GHOST IN MACHINE HEAD」,1989年12月
Re-reading one of the best sci-fi histories by @brucesterling
And my favorite among all:
Hot take of the day
Don't call yourself a frickin' "post-human" (or "transhuman", for that matter) unless you've read "Schismatrix" by Bruce Sterling and know what it means. It's not teh same thing as posthumanism in philosophy.
No, i don't want to hear your "But… but.." responses. Get back to me when the Shapers and Mechanists are real.
Though published in the mid-nineties, Sterling’s compendium Schismatrix Plus includes the Schismatrix novel itself, along with several shorts and prose pieces that add to his Shaper/Mechanist universe, including Swarm, Spider Rose, Cicada Queen, Sunken Gardens and Twenty Evocations, all of which were written between 1982 to 1988, cementing them within the cyberpunk lexicon. Schismatrix, by Bruce Sterling! I just finished reading it like a week ago and I LOVE IT. It talks about radical life extension and augmenting one’s body by means of cybernetics, biochemical tweaking, or both.
Thank you, I’ll give it a read.
