Hey, so recently I have been having a hard time managing symptoms. I got into a lot of trouble at school for being too chatty, and since then i have found it impossible to self regulate- either zoning out and isolating myself entirely or being extremely hyperactive. Has anyone had a similar experience and is there a way to find an in between? Thank you!
I am not a talking adhd person so I don't have tips for that.
Here are some stim things you can do which i have done.
1). Very small jar of playdough it is like a couble a tablespoon size (or silly putty but i feel like that looks like gum). Make sure to keep it in your hand and don't play with it on your desk.
2) try and doodle in class. Nothing elaborate. I usually draw triangles in a pattern.
3) write notes. If i am having a hard time paying attention i will start writing things down or things the teacher is writing.
4) repeat what they are saying in your head. Yhis i have a hard time with ( i get bored). But when i just can't focus it is a stim.
There is also plenty of fidget jewelry and such that you can purchase or make so your hands have something to do while you are trying to focus. I believe there is a stim tag on thr page. Of not, search it on tumblr.
In termsbod managing, do a self check . are ypu eating enough?
Are you sleeping at least 8 hours ( or whatever your body needs)
Do you have more stress than normal ?
How are your hormones ? If you are a person with a period, a period tracker can be helpful as adhd and hormones don't mix well. If you are a person who does not menstrate look into the hormone cycle for your body there might be a connection.
Also check your anxietyl, if you are having a higher level of anxiety about talkimg in class you might be subconsciously zoning out to prevent that from happening again. ( you can't get in trouble for talking if you are ignoring the people around you).
Finally, if you are on meds, when was the last time they were adjusted ? Do you need to go back to your doctor ? .l
There is a great app called adda ( i think) and it helps you map your moods and your symptoms so you can see trends and stuff. It also has medication reminder.
If you are comfortable in doing so, perhaps talk to your teachers/s. If you have a 504/ IEP, they already know you have adhd. Maybe you can open that line of communication with them. See if there is something they can do to help. ( move your seat allow you take breaks etc). Obviously this would be a good time to also talk to your case manager. I know that having a trusted teacjer or people at school is not always realistic.
^ if you use a tool from above and find that it isbreally helpful but a teacher gives you a hard time about it, gp to your case manager/ parent and say that you want to add an accomodation to your plan. You have the right to ask for that. ( it might have to be your parent as well depending on your age).
Also check out some of my other asks. They might be of help as well. It is still early in the year so you might still be adjusting back into school mode.
