Hello everyone, I wasn't expecting to come forward about this anytime soon. But, I am tired of remaining quiet. You all may know me as dir.ethan or ethan, but years ago I went by egon/sherman on a server called brightcult. But what I wanna come forward with is years of hurt and emotional damage. You all may remember Dr_bright on tiktok, a cosplayer on tiktok who cosplayed bright around 2022-2023. As of now, Dr_bright goes by the rook house on tiktok. You may also know him by his handle thats_rook or dr_rook. It doesn't matter the handle as I prefer calling him Bryn Darlow. What happened in 2022-2023 will not be forgiven, bryn flirted with me at 15-16 years old at the age of 25-30 at the time. He also approved of physical abuse through a ex-friend of mine. This document covers more of what happened but the bare minimum is that what happened to me and others wasn't okay and that we need to be heard. So please, read this document with grace and respect while not harassing anyone stated in the document.

!POST ABOUT THE SCP FANDOM!

UPD: Before acting like I’m defending AdminBright instead of other people’s creation and the character — read the post ALL THE WAY through. I clearly stated my stance on AdminBright, and if you don’t want to take those words seriously — that’s not my problem. If you’re trying to change my position when I’ve already clearly explained it and don’t intend to change it — just scroll past and move on with Tumblr.

Today I noticed a situation — specifically the removal of Dr. Bright as a character and ALL articles connected to him: family ties (SCP-590, SCP-321, O5-6), and objects strongly tied to the lore (SCP-001-5). I thought I wouldn’t bring this topic up on such a large scale, because by the time I even learned that the creator of Dr. Bright turned out to be a pedophile, everything had already settled down. But nope. Apparently not. So now I want to speak up about this, so that everyone clearly understands my position.

To be honest, when I first saw people trying to replace Dr. Bright with Dr. Shaw — I was genuinely outraged and it honestly amused me at the same time. It was especially funny to watch how part of the SCP community on Tumblr started straight up making fun of it — changing Dr. Bright’s last name not only to Shaw, but also inventing their own versions, drawing their own designs. In my eyes the community was absolutely on top at that moment — I love when people take something absurd and flip it into something even more absurd. Seriously, thank you for that, guys.

But on the other hand, even back then I understood the situation was still a mess. Being in the ENG-community SCP, there were already a lot of discussions about public figures being exposed as pedophiles.

It’s been… huh? 4 years already? In 4 years the situation had already calmed down, and I personally thought people had finally sorted out the “pros” and “cons” and understood that a character is not the same as their creator.

AND I WAS WRONG AGAIN, HOLY SH*T!

Literally several years after all that mess was discussed, the topic never stopped being argued about, and now the SCP site has completely removed all the articles connected to Dr. Bright — including the character himself (SCP-963).

Tell me honestly — have you all completely lost your minds or wha— No, seriously.

I understand that the topic of violence against minors is extremely serious and widely discussed right now. I understand how serious it is, because I myself have been a victim of people trying to drag me away from my mother right on the street in public places. I’ve seen a LOT of content discussing this horrible topic. I’ve even seen exhibits from museums dedicated to victims of sexual violence — especially the displays of children’s clothing. BUT THIS…

This makes no sense at all. The SCP site administration basically took away people’s creativity — and not only the creator AdminBright’s (fuck that guy), but the community’s creativity too.

Someone might ask, “What do you mean the community?” And that’s the point: for the last several years it was other people who were using the character of Dr. Bright (and not only him) to write stories and SCPs. They were the ones continuing to create content with him — content that you could read.

And now that’s been taken away from us!

Alright then, let me ask you something. Why don’t you burn Hitler’s artwork too?

That austrian bastard took countless lives and committed genocide against Jewish people — and yet his paintings are still shown in schools, and everyone knows about him as the artist who was rejected.

And even if you went and burned them right now — congratulations, you would still be hypocrites. Because you didn’t do it earlier. You’d be burning paintings 80 years after the fact, just like here they deleted everything about the character four years after the situation became public.

And it’s not even just one person’s work that got erased — it’s part of the SCP fandom itself.

What especially drives me insane is the last point about how they’re now going to refer to AdminBright simply as Bright.

Excuse me? So you SERIOUSLY think it’s normal for people to see the character as the same person as his creator? You’re actually encouraging that?! So what, are you also going to treat every villain in movies, books, or other media as a complete asshole just because the actor plays an asshole?

That’s honestly one of the cheapest manipulations I’ve ever seen. Congratulations. Now I finally understand why some absolute idiots harassed the actress who played Umbridge in Harry Potter, even though in reality she’s nothing like the monster her character is in the books or films.

And no, guys — this is the exact same situation as with AdminBright and Bright, just done in reverse. And again: merging a character with a creator who hasn’t even been involved with that character for years is just ridiculous and incredibly stupid.

To finish all of this, I’ll say it again:

I hate AdminBright. I hate every person who harms others, especially minors. I sincerely wish them life in prison, and for their identity to be completely destroyed there. And the families who keep insisting that their precious little son or daughter is innocent and “a good person”? They should bear the exact same responsibility.

But I will never understand this tendency to cancel everything connected to those people. We’ve already gone through this bullshit of “one person did something wrong, therefore everyone is guilty.”

By erasing all of this, you’re doing more damage to readers and content creators connected to this character than to the person who originally created him.

Remember this once and for all: a character is NOT the same as their creator. It never has been, and it never will be — even within SCP. Never.

As one YouTuber once said: “Good job. You punished the readers.”

And honestly, that’s exactly what this looks like.

Be smarter than this.
