Do you think Scythe ever feels as if he's doomed his bloodline?
Because what he did, back when he was still just William Black, saving the Old Kingdom the court of Blades, and failing to fully exterminate them, directly leads to the events in the first game. If he'd killed Jack, known too or was able to destroy his mask, before the Void sickness could change him irrevocably, Jack would never slaughter Oakvale, Theresa would never be blinded, Scarlet never captured, and the Hero never put on his quest. And if he'd refused to become Archon, or had done something different with his children, perhaps the spire would never have been constructed, meaning Rose wouldn't be murdered for it, and a new one could never be constructed ripping open the seam between their world and the void.
Do you think, even as his body decays and he is unable to escape death, he ponders what he's done, and thinks however noble it was, however much he believes he did the right thing, if he'd done something different, those of his blood could live freely, unshackled by the responsibility to save Albion, save the world, as he once did.
And perhaps even he himself could be free.
