I'm leaving for college in 4 days and I'm afraid that my spd is going to get out of control and I won't be able to manage it especially without the familiarity of home. I'm scared I'm just going to shut down all the time. Any help?
Hey there! I am sorry it took me so long to get to your ask.
Creating a routine is going to be your best friend. You can use an app like RoutineFactory (it does cost money after the free trial, but I use it everyday and it’s absolutely worth it if you can afford it), or buy a cheap whiteboard to put on your wall or desk, and write yourself a daily schedule. You can then take a photo of it on your phone so you can refer to it throughout the day.
Putting aside time everyday for sensory regulation is also important. Whether it’s brushing with a Therapressure brush, spending time under a weighted blanket or lap pad, playing with sensory doughs, listening to stimmy music… Just let yourself have time to regulate and decompress from the day.
It will also help you if you try and write down when homework and assignments are due in a diary or even just a to-do-list. I struggle with doing this (thanks ADHD) but when I manage to do it, it’s very helpful!
I hope that gives you some ideas! If anyone else has any other advice, please feel free to reblog with it!
Liesel, Mod.
