what about seer!ryan who doesn't know he's a seer? he's actually seen a bunch of ghosts in like hospitals and crowded places but ghosts actually look ridiculously close appearance- wise to regular, alive humans so he doesn't notice. that is, until he and shane start doing investigations and one night ryan's like "didn't we tell security to leave?" and shane's like "??? there's no one else here but us ry" and ryan tries not to freak the fuck out
I LIVE FOR THIS SHIT.
Like, it’s so casual and completely normal, he never realizes until he’s a damn adult. How many times has he interacted with ghosts? And is this why he always felt so attracted to know if there’s something else out there? Something beyond?
He’s internally freaking out all the while that first time he realizes. He thinks some more, makes research, thinks about the fact that maybe he’s having a mental breakdown and takes some days off work, maybe visits a doctor, talks to his mom who understands all this, their cultures all close to spirits and the beyond, it’s no wonder he may have a Gift.
No one is going to believe him without proof anyway, especially Shane. He’ll probably be worried shitless for him, would incist on him going to a therapist, would probably follow him around to make sure he is sleeping and eating well, and going to see that therapist, Ryan.
Ryan keeps it with himself, tries not to run scared from each place they visit where souls are around them, tries to convince Shane and found a way to make him understand that he’s not making this up, this place is fucking haunted.
Eventually, he tries to talk to them. Some don’t respond, others do. There are the ones who don’t know they are dead (he says so to Shane some times) and those who know but there’s nothing they (or him) can do. Older ones tend to be more conscient of their situation, newer ones seem lost more often.
With all he can see, it’s kind of ironic he hasn’t noticed Shane is always looking at him and putting attention.
He listens when Ryan talks about spirits and ghosts like if he knows them and wonders how into deep Ryan truly is. He also listens and watches when he jumps at shadows and stares too long to empty spaces. He puts attention when Bloody Mary says he may have some ability, he watches carefuly the recording of his solo session with her in that room and the child.
Ryan is not telling him something. With time, it’s obvious he won’t and he is worried. He’s worried Ryan is into too deep and believes things that aren’t, but he also worries for their closeness and their friendship, how would Ryan take it if he acuses him of something he blieves is happening to him and Shane is insensitive enough to not understand? And what if, what IF, it’s actually real and the one wrong is him? It’s risky. And it’s scary on its own.
It doesn’t help he’s kind of in love with Ryan. It makes him anxious because this is a person he doesn’t want to lose, can’t lose, and if he makes a wrong move, that’s it.
Ryan can see the dead and sometimes talk to them, but he can’t see the very much alive man that stands at his side every day.
