Name: Segisaurus halli
Name Meaning: Segi Canyon Lizard
First Described: 1936
Described by: Camp
Classification: Dinosauria, Saurischia, Eusaurischia, Theropoda, Neotheropoda, Coelophysoidea
Segisaurus was another member of the Coelophyoid group. It lived about 183 million years ago, during the Toarcian stage of the Early Jurassic. It was found in the Tsegi Canyon in Arizona, once again like many Coelophysoids. It was lightly built, which made it built for running and jumping. It may have been able to survive long droughts in its desert habitat. It was originally thought to be distinctly different from the other carnivorous dinosaurs of the age, however it was actually quite physically similar. It was a contemporary of Dilophosaurus, and thus was probably not the top predator of the area; however, the only fossil evidence of Segisaurus comes from a sub-adult, so the full size of the animal is not known. It was probably closely related to Procompsognathus.
