Personality
Clara is cold-hearted and fiercely vengeful, able to hold a grudge until hell freezes over. She’s not a mustache-twirling villain; her fury is reserved only for those who truly anger her. She knows that in polite society, exploding over minor inconveniences is unacceptable—so she waits, plans, and strikes when it matters.
She absolutely adores the idea of escaping into another world and being whisked away on an adventure. Personal freedom is extremely important to her; she will avoid anyone who dares to impose on her. She takes things VERY seriously. She has no qualms about murder either.
Despite her conviction and backbone, Clara struggles with deep abandonment wounds and the scars left by her childhood. However, she no longer believes she should quietly endure hardship for the comfort of others. In her mind, she has already suffered more than enough for one lifetime. The universe took its pound of flesh long ago, and now it owes her. Kindness, loyalty, devotion, comfort, praise, attention—Clara does not see these as luxuries to be earned, but as things she is rightfully due after everything that was stolen from her.
Clara is extremely entitled and will sink to any level to get what she knows is rightfully hers.
Despite her vicious nature, she’s not a snappy or quippy bitch to people unless they give her a reason to be so.
Clara loves being pampered and catered to. She’s extremely selective of who she lets into her inner circle.
Other Information
Likes: Having time to stand and stare, reading, doing nothing, going for long walks in the countryside, cold and cloudy weather. Animals, anything supernatural, clovers, herbs, escapism.
Collecting gemstones and trinkets/knicknacks. Retro stuff (80s cut off) Playing GBA SP - DS era games. She also loves being compared AGAINST others and excessive praise, its like heroin to her. Dislikes: math, the stem field, hot weather, sushi, flowers, smoking, alcohol, gambling, cars, sweaters/hoodies/sweats, soda (any fizzy drink), candy, poetry, stuck up intellectual snobs, humanity.
Favorites:
Animals: Bunnies, Frogs, Cats, Deer/Stags, Cougars, Wolves, Horses, Stingrays and Orcas. Food: Mushroom and olive pizza, pink lemonade. Gemstones: Celestite, Emerald, Sapphire, Opalite. Talents: She can play the harp and sing.
Type of guy:
To get it all out of the way, Clara does not care what he does for a living. She has long known that money does not guarantee stability or love — it’s not even a footnote in her mind when it comes to romance.
She wants a man who’s consistent, loyal, competent, and fixes stuff around the house, extremely handsome, who prioritizes her and her alone, and is willing to burn the world for and with her — and if he happens to be non-human, that’s a double bonus. She loves the idea of being rescued and cherished.
Clara desires to be cared for, doted on, and appreciated for who she is rather than what she can prove or whatever — someone who just lets her be a girl and lets her shut her mind off completely.
She explicitly prefers men her age or older, with ZERO interest in dating anyone younger than her, even slightly. Ideally around her age (32) to late 30s, up to around 40, or clearly adult non-human beings.
Like every red-blooded American woman, she wants the classic white picket fence life with Sunday brunches, BBQs — sans kids.
Backstory
Upon meeting Clara one might assume she had an easy life, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Clara was born to prodigious neurosurgeons Lyonidis Samhar and Isabel Samhar. They were both in an arranged marriage, as was customary in their culture, naturally, there was no love between either of them. Lyonidis was a tyrant and demanded perfection from everyone within his vicinity; not even his own family was spared. He was extremely abusive toward Clara for failing to meet his impossible expectations—like earning a PhD at the age of 2 and moving out by 8. He wanted her to follow in his footsteps and higher.
The abuse ranged from psychological torment to physical beatings with anything in reach for having a disability; he would lock her alone in her room for hours without food.
He considered anything artistic a waste of time and forbade it in his house, going so far as to throw away Clara's crayons, Leap Frog, the little xylophone, and anything else he deemed frivolous. But because she wanted Clara to have a life outside of just studying, Isabel secretly enrolled her in harp and singing lessons, which was the only good thing she did for the child.
Despite being the better parent, Isabel was no saint, she would regularly belittle her as young as 5, condemning a mother's day gift Clara's class had made: a simple ornate jar decorated with lace and sequins so mother and daughter could grow flowers together in it.
“Get it away from me! It's embarrassing!”
At times she would even defend Clara from Lyonidis, but due to her upbringing and culture she often stayed silent, believing that only men led the household.
Clara learned very early that ‘family’ was just a word in the dictionary, and that wealth did not guarantee a stable life, or a loving home.
She grew up in isolation, having only her hidden toys for companionship, Clara never told her parents anything. Fantasy and books were her only escapes and windows to the world.
Clara became hyper attuned to her surroundings and her ears would jump whenever she heard the garage door open.
The Silver Lining
A woman named Nicole Weiss would visit them often. Nicole was Isabel's then best friend.
Nicole had golden hair, skin as fair as a swan’s down, and the most angelic blue eyes. She wasn't just beautiful on the outside but the inside too, so much so that Clara mistakenly believed she was a princess when they first met.
Clara would cherish each and every second spent with Nicole and her husband Alan too, the couple treated her more like a daughter than her own parents did. The couple would come over to babysit her often when both parents were busy.
Nicole knew something was deeply wrong — she saw Clara’s bruises — but without extensive proof she had no legal way to report it. Lyonidis’ prestige as a top neurosurgeon gave him access to the best lawyers and the means to silence scandal; she couldn’t confide in Isabel either; she feared Isabel might flee to her home country and take Clara with her, which could give Lyonidis unchecked control and make Clara’s life a deeper hell. So Nicole diligently collected evidence: secret photos of bruises and “home videos” she recorded in private to document what she could.
Turning Point
One cold November evening, Lyonidis had thrown out Clara because she got a C- on her math test. She was 8 years old here. The heartless man had tricked her into getting into the car under the guise of going to get pizza because she passed but he abandoned her in the middle of nowhere, saying that she was too stupid to find her way back home.
Clara wandered for days until she came upon a familiar house — Nicole’s. She took the girl in without hesitation and prepared to take Lyonidis AND Isabel to court for child abuse and neglect. The situation was severe, but now she could take action.
Upon learning that Clara was found by Nicole, Lyonidis proceeded to take it out on his wife Isabel who eventually realized what a horrid situation she was in and gave Nicole even more evidence to get Lyonidis charged with neglect.
It was an uphill battle that went on for two years, but Nicole and Alan managed to get full custody of Clara, and completely tarnish Lyonidis’ reputation due to Isabel finally cooperating.
Despite the charges, Lyonidis was allowed to practice medicine on probation.
Aftermath
Clara was showered with love and affection by Nicole and Alan, they took time to listen to her, and helped her with the learning disability that plagued her, homeschooled her so she had more time to learn things at her own pace. But this isn’t a fairytale — the effects of abuse don’t magically disappear even when you’ve been rescued by a kind family.
She did love her new parents, even if trust was hard to rebuild again, but she knew better than to let her guard down, she knew that Lyonidis would challenge visitation rights, pretending that he had changed, and employ other manipulative tactics she was accustomed to.
At the age of 11, she was able to be angry at the abuse she went through, she finally snapped and decided to take matters into her own hands, not wanting to EVER be trapped in a situation like that again, especially not after learning that parents are not supposed to abuse their children over something paltry as bad grades.
Clara snuck into Lyonidis’ hospital one night, she knew his schedule by heart as any vigilant child does and snuck into the power supply to shut off the power because security cameras are a thing — she then found him alone in his office and proceeded to murder and tear him apart with his own surgical tools.
The tense knot in her chest finally dissolved when Lyonidis had stopped moving. For the first time in years, Clara smiled. Isabel mysteriously disappeared later that week too, her body was found in the basement furnace of the Samhar home. The only thing authorities found were a child’s footsteps in the soot…
Clara’s childhood scarred her mentally and turned her heart to stone, if there was one thing she learned it was kill or be killed.
Despite the scars her childhood left her, Clara refuses to stop dreaming of the villain who will one day sweep her off her feet and treat her like the princess she is. The man who will one day be her one and only.
That is the story of Clara. She is my self insert, a blank vessel I made to explore the worlds that made me feel at home, when I was a lonely kid who had no one but her stuffed animals and cartoons for companionship.
