Mirror Mine

~*~ 'Love yourself' they say with the same breath that tells you to stay away from strangers ~*~ The latest piece from my Spectrum series: 'Mirror Mine.' Posting this one feels a little surreal, and also like something in me is a little lighter. I spent so long painting the details and strands and ribbons, but somehow also feel like it was all finished in the blink of an eye. Like it's already a distant memory I've forgotten. This summer has been riddled with creative blocks and self-esteem issues, and I thought them separate symptoms from different problems. But now I see that one was the cause--that our relationship with our self can be like holding hands with a stranger you've tried so hard to dress up and make beautiful. One of the first things we are taught coming into this world is how to feel love. How to receive it, how to mirror its face and reflect it. We learn to love so many faces. Even ones that hurt us. How tragic it is, that the last person we learn to love is ourselves.
