Today's mantra: Art is not content.
Content is to be consumed by as many 'users' as possible, measured and valued according to that measurement. Content is about numbers, statistics. Even when useful, content has a short lifespan and is meant to be replaced by a newer piece. It is single-use plastic, no matter how well packaged.
Content expects a transaction, reciprocity.
Art is transformational even if for one person only, and that person may be the creator themselves. Art is for human beings, and its value escapes any system of measurement. Art lasts forever, it is to be re-visited, re-experienced, re-lived endlessly. Art is not afraid of another art. It is the piece of fabric my great-grandmother used as a mantlepiece, and it is now a part of my jacket.
Art has no expectations. If you take something from it, it is only a byproduct.
Art is useless, and that is its beauty.
I must refuse to believe otherwise.
