the way the majority of people talk about stimming is incredibly weird and glamorized
My favorite ASMR YouTube videos lately have been anything involving wood soup (wooden blocks gently stirred in water) and water marble runs! 💙💧
My all-time favorite stimmy things have always involved water for as long as I can remember! 🌊💦🛁
I'm sort of freaking out!
I got these knock off Loop earplugs, I have wanted to try Flare/Loop for a while but was scared to commit that much money to something I didn't fully understand. But. Oh. My. God. Is this how people hear? Like, is this how normal ears work? Is that how messed up my ears are? Is this how sound works? Because I am just, god, like I could cry
Firstly, tinnitus kinda ruins it, the ringing is louder now other sounds aren't sadly. But while my TV is distinctly quieter/muffled, everything else barely registers? My neighbours talking, their music, cars outside, either I can't hear it or everything is just like, muffled vibrations that barely register. So the largest earplugs make me hear things easier without muffling anything, but yeah, they don't seem to change too much? Where as the second largest do muffle things and mute things like ear plugs, so I don't know which is ideal/meant to be how they are?
But I just kinda can't believe it? Like, if it weren't for this fekin tinnitus, I can't hear things? And it's amazing? I don't have earphones in and I can hear my TV? I can hear my TV and not my neighbours or the road? Like, they are being kinda quiet right now so I need to see how they work then or in like Aldi, but sitting here? I'm just freaking out? I can't hear other things? Is this how hearing is meant to work?
Anyone else find brushing doll's hair oddly relaxing? its soft and pretty to run your hands through, keeps hands busy.... its pretty nice
Don’t know if a business like this already exists, and if it does please tell me, but I think it would be cool to have a store that sells autistic-friendly clothing. Clothes not just tolerable to autistic people, but actively suited to accommodate and be convenient for us. Ideas:
Comfortable fabrics; no mesh or other irritating features; printed labels and small seams.
Sparkly and shimmery features, like sequins, glitter and metallic squares and strips, in places the wearer can see, like the front, hem and sleeve cuffs. So you can visually stim by just looking down and you can get lovely refractions by rippling and tilting the fabric and moving your arms.
Lights can sometimes be integrated as an additional means of visual stimming.
Lots of practical pockets! For random stuff, stim tools, comfort objects and in case you see a cool object to add to your cool object collection.
You know the strings on hoodies? The ends of these ones can have chewable pendants. Collars and cuffs of other tops can also come with chewable silicone on them (possibly removable).
Sections of different textures for tactile stimming. They have a uniform lining to avoid discomfort.
Various clothes are fully or partially made of a crackly/rustly/swishy/etc. material, or have clickers or those popping bubbles on silicone patches (they could be built into shoes too), to enable on-the-go auditory stimming. If you find noises like that unpleasant, you can get versions of the same items in a much quieter material.
Zips for motor and auditory stimming.
Optional cords and dangly bits to fiddle with and enhance stimming movements.
Some items are lightly weighted and/or can easily, safely have weights attached to or put in them, for when you need to feel grounded and pressed on. A starter set of weights come with the latter, obviously.
Ideally clothes should be as durable, washable and repairable as possible so those who get emotionally attached to Their Specific Thing and its reassuring familiarity are less likely to need to throw it away. Clear, precise care and maintenance tips should be easily accessible.
Chewellery, fidget rings, sunglasses and noise-cancelling headphones can be sold at the same store - outfits need accessories, after all. I already have the perfect name: stimwear.
Feel free to add your own ideas!
