This backpacking trip was a bit long to fit into two days. The length came from the miles, which I knew about, and the state of the trail, which I could have known better. It turns out someone had kindly marked the "trail visibility" on OpenStreetMap, which I was doing a lot of following because they also marked the trails spot on. If only I knew what those colors meant. On the ground, the trail was so overgrown that some of the obscuring vegetation was slow growing. There was a really bad fire through some years before and it wasn't quite recovered. The views stay, of course. So much view. I bagged the first peak of the trip, an old lookout, and then had more miles to go than light to find the closest water. I needed that water.
