Im guessing that sequel Yue’s friend is working on involves the journey that involves Macaque being made a pilgrim along with Wukong.

(I imagine it would be more of a choose your ending kind of game than an otome game)

With the story involving Macaque having to fend off enemies (who (more often than not) happen to get too handsy with Wukong) to protect Tripitaka and the other pilgrims.

With Macaque also having to make allies (by persuasion or by force) in order to help the journey along (with the allie(s) chosen changing the route).

I could even imagine at one point in the story Macaque becomes jealous of Ao Lie for his growing bond with Wukong, and being a little fearful of another Azure situation with Ao Lie, but eventually growing to adore the young dragon prince as much as Wukong.

(Macaque would also be resentful of Tripitaka whenever the circlets are used but usually views him as a naïve baby, annoyed by Bajie’s antics towards Wukong especially when Bajie is being lustful and/or lazy, and indifferent but otherwise respectful of Wujing)

I like your predictions about the Sequel Game! I always enjoyed the AUs where Macaque joins the pilgrims. Their dynamics are always fun and the Jttw gang gets front-row seats to Shadowpeach pining.

I can't confirm or deny that the sequel game will go as you predict since it features heavily in Act II of the fic but I can say that you're definitely going somewhere with the prediction that the sequel won't keep to the otome game genre.

I honestly think I'm too old to play along with the dumb, cliquey characters. If you notice the glowing cubes on a Pokemon and they're being manipulated against their will, you fight like Hell to protect their safety and dignity. Being all experienced as an Adult can be no fun sometimes. And I thought I was being a condescending pain going over obvious cliques when watching TAS Spidey around mid July.
