8 Eyes - Simon Belmont (NES rom hack) elbobelo
*This is a hack I played early on in the channel, but I decided to replay it now with better quality and go all the way to the end. I also redesigned the thumbnail to be more faithful to the original artwork.
"Here is a fully functional hack of 8 Eyes, featuring Simon Belmont as the main character! No longer do you have to stab enemies with a small sword—now you can strike them with Simon’s whip! Additionally, some of the classic Castlevania sub-weapons are available for use in the game.
This patch does not alter the storyline in any way; rather, it serves as a demonstration of how such a conversion can be achieved. It was intended as a test for a larger project to fully transform the game into a new Castlevania adventure. However, it seems the project has been abandoned for quite some time."*

Nosferatu / ノスフェラトゥ - Arcade Action rom hack (SNES)
I remember being intensely intrigued by this game as I read about it in what was my first issue of GameFan magazine I ever picked up, in July '95. Castlevania: Dracula X also featured in that issue. So did Hagane. Man, SNES fans were eating good that month.
So what is it? Take Jordan Mechner's Karateka AND Prince of Persia, then make it all Dracula-coded. Sounds to me like perfection. YES THIS IS THE ONE AND ONLY MECHNERVANIA IN EXISTENCE. Love that Jun Suemi artwork too.
The accompanying video is what familiarity married with skillful play looks like throughout a run. The rom hack really serves to streamline the animations making gameplay much more fluid, and really the game deserves this extra love and attention. You'd think the constant feeling of "FUCK YES, I MADE IT!" would be thrilling, but in practice, after hundreds of times clearing difficult sections... it's truthfully kinda exhausting. No denying that this game is waaaay fucking cool though.
[For years I was somehow under the impression that Koji Igarashi was involved with the game, since the credits list a K. Igarashi... but that'd be Kōzō Igarashi and not our IGA.]
