I’m reading Strong Female Protagonist, because I read The Power Fantasy and it whetted my appetite for discursive treatises on ethics thinly disguised as genre-breaking superhero comics [A/N: THIS IS A REC FOR BOTH], and jfc I know this boy was literally a Supervillain(TM), but he is such a Supervillain(TM).

having read worm and then strong female protagonist pretty soon after i think the difference is so incredibly fucking funny.

in sfp alison spends pages and pages having intense philosophical discussions about ethics and aesthetics and all her liberal arts major shit. and then in worm no one has the time or desire to worry about things like Utilitarianism and the Axiom of the Tyrant. which is partially because taylor actually wants to change things and her self righteousness prevents her from that kind of introspection. and also because worm's setting and plot just have too much happening to waste time handwringing. and also because the shards purposefully avoid picking people who would use their powers in constructive ways and favor short sightedness.

it's just hilarious reading page after page of philosophy and then openin g worm and seeing taylor explain how having maggots eat a man's eyeballs is simply the practical choice for the greater good. and then not think about it ever again after that.

this is making me laugh so bad because 1. the DUNK sound when they hit each other and 2. right after this they climb up to the counter/stage and darby does a hurricanrana and jack goes fucking flying. its such a darby bump so i was shocked to see jack take it LOL
