Congratulations to the NTU School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) class of 2020! All 164 of you have put in the hard work over the years and it is time to celebrate your achievements. 🎉🎉 I was initially invited to attend the NTU ADM Graduation Show 2020 at Gillman Barracks, but due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the event did not take place. Subsequently, the staff, student body committee and the graduating students decided to take their graduation show online (www.admgradshow.com). I am impressed by the resolve. Please visit the website to view the works of our emerging talents in the arts and visual sectors. (Link in bio) The government is also encouraging our arts and culture community to go digital through the Digitalisation Fund and Digital Presentation Grant. I hope to see more innovative digital works soon! Our arts and culture community, like many other sectors, are facing tough challenges due to COVID-19. NMP Terence Ho raised questions on assistance for artists and arts groups in Parliament, and I took the opportunity to share more about our support for the arts and culture sector. Besides the measures under the Unity, Resilience and Solidarity Budgets, the arts and culture community can also benefit from the $55 million Arts and Culture Resilience Package (ACRP). Not only does the ACRP provide additional support for our arts and culture sector, it seeks to enhance the resilience of our cultural practitioners so that they can emerge stronger from this crisis. A key component of the ACRP is the Digitalisation Fund (DF). It supports digital commissions, and new works to be showcased at our major festivals. Arts groups and practitioners have also benefitted from the Digital Presentation Grant for the Arts, which is part of the DF. Since applications opened on 14 April 2020, over 60 have been supported. I urge more practitioners to apply for the Digitalisation Presentation Grant (DPG) and other support measures under ACRP, and call upon everyone to continue supporting our artists and arts groups. We need the arts and culture to uplift our spirits in these difficult times. My speech via link in Bio. P.S. Do check out From The Living Room, an NAC-commissioned project featuring 30 virtual dance and music performances (more info in the images), as well as a special performance of Ode to Joy at www.beethooven.com (conceived by Kahchun Wong featuring local and overseas artists). The projects are supported by DF and DPG respectively. #SGArts #SGUnited #SingaporeTogether #SGCultureAnywhere https://www.instagram.com/p/CApG_uCHepS/?igshid=1sc9v1a7luxu1
Happy to support Orchestra of the Music Makers last Sunday at the Singapore premiere of Die Walküre (The Valkyrie). This is a technically challenging work by renowned German composer Richard Wagner. Led by Music Director Chan Tze Law, the production features a cast of major international singers, including Singaporean sopranos Jade Tan and Janani Sridhar, who play Waltraute and Ortlinde respectively. Kudos to OMM, cast and crew members for bringing Richard Wagner’s masterpiece to our shores. #ommwalkure2020 #sgarts #sgtalent https://www.instagram.com/p/B7FhWOQn5yU/?igshid=k33rje2o9rnc
NMP Mr @terenceho3078 shared some suggestions in Parliament on leveraging shared resources and growing audiences through digital platforms, so as to build a sustainable and vibrant community arts ecosystem. The arts and culture play an important role in bringing people from different walks of life together. It enlivens the spaces in which we live, work and play, and strengthens our sense of national identity. That is why it is important to foster an environment where arts and cultural groups can continue to grow and remain relevant to audiences. However, this is not a journey we can undertake alone. To ensure that the sector remains sustainable in the longer-term, @mccysg, @nacsingapore and @nhb_sg are committed to working with partners to support arts and cultural practitioners in various ways. Together, we can build a vibrant and sustainable landscape for the arts and culture scene to flourish. Wonderful production by Wild Rice. Till 22 Dec. Happy to see quite a number of members from the Down’s Syndrome community in the audience last night. We all enjoyed ourselves. #peterpaninserangoongardens #sgarts #sgtheatre #sgtalents https://www.instagram.com/p/B6C_DnPnvLh/?igshid=1muhw8sp7720i
We had great fun playing handbells to the tune of Singapura and Jingle Bells. Congratulations to all the PAssionArts Awards winners! I would like to thank all Community Arts and Culture Club (CACC) members, community artists and partners for your efforts in making arts accessible through PAssionArts. #PAssionArts #sgarts #sgtalent https://www.instagram.com/p/B6ABscpHUYk/?igshid=141qn02jvo1py
