What’s a Mini Bang? The Shadowhunters Mini Bang 2023 is a collaborative fandom event that combines writer and artist talents! Writers create never before seen stories, betas test their editing skills, and artists choose a story that inspires them to create! Not only is this a great chance to create something new for the fandom, but it also gives an opportunity to work with new people and make new fandom friends through the Malec Discord Server.
Who can participate? In order to participate in this Mini Bang, you must be a member of the Malec Discord Server. This is a requirement as, instead of emailed check ins, all Mini Bang announcements will be made in the server.
You must be at least 16 years old to join the server and participate in this bang. You must be over 18 years old to create/read explicit works.

Artist Specific Rules:
You must be part of the Malec Discord Server in order to participate in this Mini Bang. All announcements regarding this event will be made in the server.
Artists must create at least one finished project, but can complete as many extra pieces as they desire.
All art must be brand new and never posted before.
Artists have the opportunity to use plenty of mediums and their minimums are below. If there is a medium that is not listed, message a mod and we would be happy to figure it out.
1 digital or physical art, 500px minimum
1 photo manip with significant editing
Moodboards must contain at least 6 graphics
Gifsets must contain 4 gifs (without watermarks)
Videos must be 1 minute minimum
Playlists must include at least 8 songs and a graphic
Artists will need somewhere to host their work so that it can be embedded on AO3.
Plagiarism will not be tolerated. Stock images for your project should be open source and proper credits and sources should be provided. Watermarks for any images/gifs should be removed.
Artists may not get their first pick during claims. Ending your commitment because of this is not permitted. If you feel this will be an issue, do not sign up for the event.

Once the initial sign-ups are complete, writers are given time to work on their fics as artists and betas patiently wait to be paired up with a writer. Writers are expected to keep their fic concepts a secret and not reveal which is theirs.
Betas will be given brief summaries of each fic and will select their top three fics to beta. After betas send their choices, they will be matched with a writer to help with not only editing, but inspiration!
Then artists will be given blind summaries so that no one knows who wrote what! From this list, they’ll choose the top three fics that they would like to provide art for. After they send in their choices, the artists will be matched with a writer that they will collaborate with for the rest of the event until it’s time to post their hard work on a pre-assigned posting date!

What do I have to create?
This Mini Bang is for all Shadowhunters pairings and general creations alike. Your creations do have some minimums that you must meet to be a part of the event, all of which are listed below. There are two options for writers and artists!
Writers:
Tier One: 5,000 words minimum
Tier Two: 15,000 words minimum
Tier Two writers will receive one piece of artwork for their fic.
Fics have to be standalone fics. What you make for the Mini Bang must be comprehensible without having to have read any extra parts. After the posting date, you may add any sequels, prequels, or side stories you may like!
Writers can sign up with a fic that has already been started as long as it has not been posted on any forum (such as AO3, FF.net, Wattpad, etc.)
Writers are required to have an AO3 account. All fics will be posted to an AO3 collection. Please talk with a moderator if you do not have an AO3 account.
You must be able to provide a summary of your work when claims open and be willing to work with whoever you are matched with!
Artists:
Tier One: 1 artwork for 1 fic
Tier Two: 2 artworks for 2 fics
Art can be digitally made, or a good quality scan/photo. They can be paintings, lineart, comics, animations, or mood boards.
Gifsets must contain 4 gifs (without watermarks).
Videos must be 1 minute minimum.
Artists will need somewhere to host their work so that it can be embedded on AO3.
How will claims work?
As a writer, you will have the option during sign-ups to state what kind of art you would be interested in receiving. If no request is made, you will be matched with any artist. Please keep in mind that while we will take your choices into consideration, there is no guarantee.
Claims will start out with writers, who will submit which tier they are interested in, what pairing(s) their fic will contain, expected rating, any warnings, and a brief summary of their fic.
Brief summaries will be sent to betas who will choose 3 works they are interested in beta reading. Betas are able to contact a moderator if they have a writer they would like to be matched with. Same with writers.
Writers will have a chance to work on their fic and iron out the summary until artist sign ups close. Once artist sign ups close, the fleshed-out summaries of writer’s works will be posted for artists to choose from. Artists will choose their top 3 works and will be assigned one or two depending on the tier they chose.
Please do not sign up for more than you can handle!
