As part of my 2026 goals I am trying shadowing in Japanese. I found this video helpful for convenience store phrases in Japan. First you listen to the conversation at a native pace, then she breaks it down for you. The video is only in Japanese with Japanese subtitles, but you can add YouTube's English subtitles if you'd like.

was shadowing one time and a patient (who i definitely was not supposed to be talking to) asked me if they were going to die, and I panicked and said yes. I’m such a fucking idiot it still keeps me up at night.

Waiting to shadow in the ER.

I got here crazy early.

I was so nervous about being late, which is a little irrational considering the ER is THE one place that is the easiest place to find at a hospital.

There are red colored signs with white lettering quite literally everywhere. It would be hard to miss because the signs are practically screaming "this way if it's an emergency!"

I'm also meeting the director which I was not expecting. They just said to ask for Ryan and didn't include a last name. I have little to no idea of what shadowing here will entail.

I have an interview with the same hospital system, tomorrow, at a different location.

I actually felt a little embarrassed because I got here 30 minutes early, but the last time I had a hospital interview, I underestimated how long it would take me to find the right place and was late by 2 minutes, so I overcorrected a bit.
