INFECTED STAGE 4: Shamblers

Shamblers are an alternate fourth stage of the Infected. It is suggested that Shamblers were in the process of mutating into Bloaters, but heavy exposure to water from the constant rain in Seattle caused them to change into Shamblers instead. However, they are encountered in areas away from water such as in the suburbs of the city and the forest areas. They are horrifying, walking pustule-clusters that spray gaseous acid when they get near anyone and take massive damage before dying. The fungal growth is so immense that spores cover their entire body, leading to oversized heads and torsos with dozens of the puss spores around them. In addition to this, their mouths have been stuck gaping wide by the fungus, preventing them from being able to bite. However, the growth has not consumed their arms and their eyes are still partially visible. Once defeated, these festering threats explode with violent force, emitting enough spores that deal heavy damage those surrounding them.

Can somebody tell me why the Shamblers are double cheeked up on a Thursday afternoon?

So, one thing I keep thinking about is the shamblers. They exist just...because. we have ZERO explanation of how they came to be, and it's infuriating.

I was theorising to my partner about the existence of the shamblers. The fireflies or some other group were trying to find a vaccine, and tried using blood or something else from immune people (as we know from the first game there WERE others with immunity) on infected to try cure them. And that something went terribly wrong and actually accelerated the mutation instead, turning them into shamblers.

I was really keen to see if my theory was right, and we just...never learn about them??
