OKAY so back at like 2020 or 2021 I was ACTIVE in the genshin rp scene and one of my friends made a fatui oc that, due to being the only survivor of a snow blizzard, was adopted into the fatui and raised to be a soldier! also this was before inazuma's release so shoutout to [unnamed bc we fell out of touch so I don't know if they'd like to be named] for predicting the house of the hearth!
anyways their oc was not only an absolute BANGER, but also sparked what I now realize was whumperflies in 14 yo me! so I copied it with my own oc. also had the stellar idea to think that if [friend's oc] was integrated, why not make it a whole program? badabim badaboom fatui orphanage. I shit you not the first thing I came up with is that the rejects get sent to dottore
uhhhh as stuff came out and someone leaked a fatui orphanage then the secret shrine maiden quest came out I TWEAKED. my oc got updates. leaks about lyney (and lynette) being from the hoth(house of the hearth) brought me back after I'd gotten bored. I desperately held myself back from telling everyone their surnames. I listened to their leaked voicelines. I read their stories.
it was not as bad as I envisioned in my head. fym arlecchino saved them!! white knight white knight!!! fym they're not sleeper agents!!!! fym freminet has a job he enjoys that is in no way related to the fatui?!!?!!! free time and healthy hobbies on my extremely fanonized interpretation of a fictional orphanage we previously only had teeny tiny crumbs about?!?!?!!!;1!?!
arlecchino releasing made me fully give up on the vision I'd originally had on the hoth. I generally do actually like the canon hoth, but I was super attached to this whole miniature concept I'd invented and shared with so many people.
so I'm making my own child soldier orphanage!!!
CONSIDER CHILD SOLDIERS IN WHUMP. WITH CONDITIONING. consider telling children that have nowhere else to go (and whumper KNOWS they have nowhere else to go) they can either join the military or continue whatever they were doing. consider training and conditioning them. consider reminding them where they'd be, had carewhumper not taken them in. consider "letting them off easy" via punishment, or threatening to put them to other use.
consider teaching those children happy lies of doing good, and shattering that reality when they dare be ungrateful and try to run away. consider always making the expectations on them clear. consider the bonds these children will form both with each other and carewhumpers. parental whump my beloved. consider living weapon whumpee that isn't an on-field combatant. consider living weapon whumpee who's allowed to be a person as a reward.
consider living weapon whumpee who was previously rescued from a different kind of whumper and is just perfect for molding into a killing machine. consider orphans children willingly volunteering for the military because the program is well known. consider generations upon generations of this where previous whumpees retire to work in the same orphanage so that they'll never have to move out, prolonging the cycle of violence with promises of family. and that family isn't even false, just conditional.
whumpee who was rescued from a vampire thrall trade and is constantly reminded where they would've been had carewhumpers not been so generous as to rehabilitate them. ungrateful little thing, always reacting so slow, cowering from the vampires the carewhumpers have taken in as if they're the same one, either hoarding food or immediately wolfing it down.
whumpee who was abandoned as a child and came in to a place they knew they'd be accepted, but gradually realized the danger behind it and tried escaping. they were brought back and thoroughly disciplined. it's obvious that they're using a facade once one simply reads their file or asks them, but that doesn't matter so long as they're obedient.
a whumpee turned carewhumper that sees nothing wrong with what they're doing. they were raised this way, and though it was very scary, so is life in general. they certainly wouldn't have survived in this world without this orphanage, and much less by being coddled. the children brought here have all had difficult experiences that have scarred them, they can't be treated like normal kids.

yeah!! will also be in a typical high fantasy setting because I prefer it a whole lot more.
I'm honestly unsure of what to call this thing. I can't really go with the house of the hearth. at some point I internally called it erysimum institute because I read destroyer and the name beldam institute just sounds rlly catchy. also erysimums symbolize faith in unfortunate situations which I think fits perfectly. but the loneliness/shyness part of wallflowers (a prominent type of erysimum) is a little less fitting.
I'll definitely change the name because I want it to be as original as it can be!! probably to some kind of flower meaning rebirth or smt but idk.

hi! I got this ask like. nearly a month ago I just procrastinate bad so I'm only getting to it now. you can still find it in this post, but daffodil academy was originally created FOR walenty.
got long, so more under the cut! tw for brief mentions of potential sexualization of a character who is a minor (not from me) and also mentions of suicide in a fictional context. and discussion of fictional child soldiers but that's par for the course for the author of The Child Soldier Orphanage
walenty was first created as a genshin oc for discord rp in 2021-2022! I left the server they were first created on a long time ago, so I don't know the exact date anymore. at the time, the discord genshin rp sphere had this system of characters somehow having phones and groupchats, whom all the playable characters and ocs somehow had access to.
in some this was canon and in some this was for fun, but there were also options for groupchats! for mondstadt, liyue, and sometimes inazuma (it hasn't come out yet) or snezhnaya. but most importantly, groupchats for leading factions! the knights of favonius, the adventurer's guild, adepti, archons, sometimes the liyue qixing... I think that if treasure hoarders were popular too they'd have gotten a gc too
anyways, the fatui gc outshined all of those! except maybe the ones that had everyone. everyone was either roleplaying as a canon fatuus (we literally only had signora, childe and scaramouche at the time... and dottore too if you read the webtoon I guess), or their own oc! winter night's lazzo (for non-genshin players, that's the name of a trailer that revealed all of the fatui harbingers, which are these military commanders of the fatui) hadn't been released yet, so harbinger ocs were incredibly common
this is also why walenty was originally created! for fatui rp. they were never a harbinger, I couldn't see them in a position of power even back then. also, I'll be referring to walenty as kote from now on, since that was the first name I gave the first iteration of them
kote was created shortly after a then-friend of mine created their own fatui oc, rusalka, who was orphaned by a blizzard in snezhnaya (for non genshin players, that's one of the nations in genshin and it's an eternal very very cold winter), but somehow survived it. due to this, he was taken in by snezhnaya's government! which is the fatui! the fatui is a military organization! child soldier.
honestly to this day I think rusalka's story and characterization was wonderfully made and unintentionally predicted like 3 separate plotbeats in genshin, but he's not my oc so I'm not gonna tell his story. when I read about him, I was immediately starstruck, because the concept of the fatui raising a kid to become a soldier was so. amazing to me??? so I immediately stole it and made it so that there was a program for it, and created kote out of that.
ever since then, kote changed a lot! they were originally a boy since literally all of my ocs were girls or non binary (I love to draw feminine designs), but as I came to love them more I wanted to turn them into a female character. they punched me through the screen when I did that so I turned them back.
also at this time my oc submission for this version of them was rejected bc they were actually loyal to their cause and not a fucking liar??? insane. it wasn't being loyal that made them get rejected though, it was that kote has consistently been young, and this variation of them was still a girl who had an extremely unhealthy admiration towards the tsaritsa and fatui harbingers. looking back, it was a mix of me being too whumpy and the mods on that server being creepy about a fictional teenage girl whom I portrayed as drawing no line on what she'd do for the fatui that made that submission get rejected.
on one hand, it was a server I had literally just joined a few days ago and I didn't read through submissions to scour through common themes and what was acceptable, but on the other hand I lowkey think the concept of a devoted and brainwashed child soldier was being sexualized BY the mods there, because they said it was uncomfortable to have a "teenage girl dote on the harbingers." which if they interpreted it as romantic/sexual is rlly fucking creepy, but just the thought makes me extremely uncomfortable to this day so it's understandable why they rejected the fuck out of her even if that interpretation was FUCKING WRONG!!! never happened again when kote was a boy in later renditions and literally killed themselves on screen (person I rped with was chill with disturbing content 👍) because they felt like they wasted signora's time and that made them a complete failure and their life a failure 🤷

anyways, that's one thing I wanted kote to keep but ultimately can't do: I think their character is better suited for being female bc of the connections they've always had to the "cute anime girl is pure and innocent and perfect" trope that's so representative of their masking, the cold rage they've always inhabited that's more commonly referred to as "female rage", and just the fact I like drawing girls most, but I've tried twice so far and kote keeps sucker punching me through the screen, so I made then transmasc in reference to that. the current iteration of kote (called walenty!! they're the 6th one, but might be 7 if I count an unfinished rendition) is non binary and has been non binary since the 5th iteration.
the one thing that stayed through every single variation isssss being a child soldier! it was so integral to their character that when genshin had revealed the canon "fatui orphanage", it wasn't whumpy enough for me, so I went on to create daffodil academy! that and being short and "anxious". they'd always been insecure, terrified of death, and overthinking to the extreme. over the years, the loyalty that was a core of their character slowly diminished until it straight up left, they became more analytical, less empathetic. but kote has always kept that fear that kept them hypervigilant, moving, and obedient.
I'm honestly surprised I didn't find the whump genre earlier, bc while minor whump is a sensitive topic even here, it's literally perfect for walenty. I straight up wrote whump of them before I knew what whump was.
this answer got really off topic with the side tangents I went on, but I'm really happy I got to write it out loud on tumblr. kote is an oc I've had since I was 13, and I really love them. I've paced back in fourth in school breaks where I wasn't allowed to have my phone thinking about them, I got into researching psychology to write them accurately, I've made friends thanks to them, they're a core reason for my art improvement, and many more things. I love my son (gender neutral) ™
fun fact deltatraveler was my first inspiration for a flowey exploring the multiverse. I just thought "oh yeah he WOULD wanna do that wouldn't he" so I shamelessly stole the idea of flowey absorbing a human soul and gaining access to the utau through that. it was intended to be a one-time thing for a roblox roleplay tbh
