“Come on Whumpee, were done.” Whumper hovered over Whumpee’s beaten up body, giving it a last kick on the stomach to make sure it was still alive before finally sitting down, grabbing his pen.

As soon as Whumpee heard the signal, its trembling body slowly groveled to Whumper’s feet, hurrying its members to fonction correctly in despise of its dislocated arm and bruised knees, before quietly kissing Whumper’s boot.
Whumper acquired whumpee second hand, and everything has been going poorly due to transition. New rules to follow, new boundaries to push, and new expectations, mean that neither Whumpee nor whumper are having a great time adjusting.
However, things change when Whumper accidentally finding out one of whumpees old command words. One of many words whumpee was relieved to never have to hear again when they were transferred from their old whumper, but still, their body reacts all the same.
Does whumper use this newfound knowledge to their advantage? Finding other trigger words and phrases and using them as they see fit?
Or are they struck with guilt, because they swore to themselves that they would treat whumpee differently than their old whumper?
Whumper starting off the relationship asking whumpee what their triggers are under the guise of trying to avoid them
Obviously. Turning around and using those when whumpee is starting to get smart
"I mean. People who love each other don't... don't hit each other... right?" And whumper responds with something they know will upset whumpee---"Everyone has flaws. YOU would know that, whumpee. You know how you are with your anger issues."
On that note, convincing whumpee, who is great at staying calm, that they have anger issues under the surface.
Or, "you're gullible." "You don't believe in yourself." "You're sensitive." Repeating it until whumpee starts to believe it. Starts to act it out.
Whumpee finally lashing out.
"It's all your fault."
"You started this!"
"If you didn't always talk in circles like this---"
"I can't tell if you're stupid or just pretending, to manipulate me!"
Whumper acting shocked. Hand over their heart dramatically.
Whumper bursting into tears and whumpee starts reflexively apologizing.
"You always do this!" Whumper says. "You always blow up at me! When am I allowed to have feelings?"
Whumpee has a choice between apologizing, giving in, or being "cruel".
Whumpee going to hug whumper and being pushed away suddenly. "I don't trust you anymore," whumper cries.
Or. Whumpee laughs in whumper's face, turns on their heel, and walks out the door.

Whumpee was going insane.
This new team didn't know how to handle him at all.
They were giving mixed signals, once signalling to him that he was to attack, the next time trying to stop him. One time they'd want him to be by their side, the next time they'd be freaked out by Whumpee kneeling by them. And worst of all, nobody ever told him who his new handler actually was. So he was stuck obeying all commands from all team members, like a mad dog.
It got so bad Leader had to call a meeting. Whumpee took his place kneeling in front of the sofa, like he was supposed to, because attack dogs weren't allowed on furniture, but that already seemed to make a bad impression. Leader made a face when they saw him do that. It made him shrink away even more, trying to make himself small, after so many years of puffing out his chest to seem as intimidating as Handler needed him to be.
"Let's just address the elephant in the room," Leader began when everyone had taken their places. "Whumpee has been here for a week now. He won't talk, he won't sit on furniture, and he apparently has a lot of triggers." They looked at Whumpee. "I assume you have no comment on the situation."
Whumpee shook his head, then bowed it. He didn't want to look at Leader right now. He didn't want to look at anyone. He was failing his new team for some reason he couldn't pinpoint. A whole meeting had to be called to deal with him, he must've been such a nuisance.
"I've figured out some of it," Caretaker spoke up. Caretaker had spent maybe the most time with him out of everyone. Whumpee even mistakenly assumed they were his new handler, but that turned out to be a wrong assumption. "Whistling is a no-no, that's his signal to attack. Clapping is... Like, 'drop everything you're doing'. Whumpee, am I summing those up well?"
Caretaker always talked to him like he wasn't just a dog. Like he would answer. He didn't.
"Okay," Leader said. "No whistling, no clapping. What else?"
"I noticed that he won't eat unless the plate is placed on the floor for him," Medic chimed in. "And he won't use utensils."
Leader sighed. "Yes, I've noticed that as well. Any info on his previous team yet? Youngest?"
Youngest must've shaken their head or something, because Leader sighed again. "Sorry," they added. "It's really hard to track down people who have made it their whole mission to be un-trackable."
Handler didn't want Whumpee's knew team to find them. He didn't know why. He didn't even know why he had been discarded and left on the doorstep of Leader's base. But he didn't question it. He never did.
"Okay. Well, I'd like to formally ask everyone to note any behaviour of Whumpee's that's concerning or useful. I know you've kind of been doing that on your own anyway, but just to make it official. And Whumpee," he looked up at them, "you can sit on the couch. It won't bite."
Whumpee's heart immediately started racing. Leader was giving him an order that contradicted what Handler had taught him. Handler had abandoned him. Leader was part of the team of his new handlers. The leader of the new handlers. Was he supposed to obey? But it'd been drilled into his head so many times that furniture was for people.
"Don't work yourself up," Caretaker said in a low voice. They were sitting right behind him. "You don't have to if you don't want to."
Want? A weapon didn't want. A weapon followed orders.
"Well, that's it for now," Leader said, standing up. "Meeting's over. We'll revisit Whumpee's case in a week or so. Try not to trigger him. Avoid triggers like the plague until Medic finds a way to gently de-condition him."
But Handler had worked so hard to instill all the rules in him—
Handler wasn't around anymore.
Leader clearly wanted a different type of dog.
This was okay. He could be moulded. Shaped into something different and useful. Re-conditioned to be obedient to whoever his new handler would turn out to be.
"Come along, will you?" Medic said, and Whumpee quickly followed them.
«Do you have the slightest clue of what you’ve done? What Whumper will do to us? In comparison Brisge will be a fucking delux center.»
«Whumpee, you need to breath»
«I need to go back.»
«Absolutely not»
«I- I need to apologize»
«For what? Hitting them back?»
«Leave me!»
«Whumpee, you go you never come back. You said it yourself, they’re more than dangerous. They’re psychotic.»
«I have to, Caretaker, they’ll be so upset-»
«Fuck them. They aren’t here»
«They’ll be so angry. They- they’re going to kill me, Caretaker. They’ll hang you, with the other fools and I’ll watch. I disobeyed a direct order. We aren’t getting out of this one. I-.» but they didn’t even know how to continue that sentence
«Whumpee, you’re rambling. We’re not at the court anymore. We’re safe»
«We’re fucked! Why did you have to come back, uh? Why couldn’t you just stay away? For once in your life, why couldn’t you make it easy?»
«For fuck’s sake Whumpee, look at me. They aren’t here. You’re safe.»
Whumpee stared at them, not fully grasping what those words meant
«You’re safe. We did it, Whumpee. We escaped»
«We- we did it (?)»
«We did»
«Oh god,» Whumpee passes a hand through the hair and a chuckle escapes them «we did it»
They keep laughing and despite their anger, Caretaker joins in too until they’re both bent in half holding on to each other not to fall
