The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017)
Sheikah Towers (5/15): Hateno Tower
Okay so general consensus seems to be that the whole “the Sheikah tech turned to dust after the Calamity was vanquished” explanation is…like…the absolute worst explanation possible. And I agree, it’s a dumb hand-waving reason for the Sheikah tech to be gone.
BUT
I think there is a way to MAKE it work.
So, the main reason people don’t like it seems to be that there IS Sheikah technology left in TotK. There’s the ruined guardian atop one of the ancient tech labs, Robbie still has Cherry/the ancient oven, and both the numerous Skyview Towers and the Purah Pad are clearly made from recycled Sheikah tech. Heck, even Purah’s telescope over her lab in Looklout Landing has the same designs as the Sheikah tech. Clearly not ALL Sheikah tech turned to dust, despite the implications that it’s all supposed to be gone. So, why were these things left?
To put it simply, I believe the reason for most of the Sheikah tech turning to dust is because it was designed that way. This is probably obvious, but what this means is that there would have to be some sort of mechanism to detect the lack of Calamity Ganon and trigger the disintegration. The shrines and towers? The divine beasts? The guardians? They would have all had this mechanism intact. But the other stuff wouldn’t. That ruined guardian that Zelda writes off as a replica? It probably had its internal components removed, either to be studied or to render it harmless. Robbie’s ancient oven that he named after his first love move on man it’s been way too long? It was made from a guidance stone and might not have had the mechanism to begin with. The Skyview Towers and Purah Pad? Probably made from scraps of Sheikah Tech that were separated from the disintegration component.
So, if we rewrite the voice memory, it should sound something like this:
It seems that, when the Calamity was defeated, most of the ancient relics here at the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab turned to dust and disappeared. When I asked Purah why she believed some pieces remained, she theorized that a sort of mechanism was at play. A way for the ancient Sheikah to put their creations to rest when their duty was fulfilled. Regardless of the reason, all that remains are scraps and replicas of the originals, and with those gone, these are even more valuable. They will doubtlessly help tell future generations of the history of Hyrule.
Sheikah tec wings anyone?
More under the cut, I had a couple of different designs
Listen the Sheikah slate is nice and all, but concept art prosthetic Wild would have been much cooler and would have played a lot more into how close perma dead he truly was.
Cause let's be real the shrine of resurrection rebuilding his body instead of doing magic zap zap bungaloo fancy time to heal him would have been sO GOOD.
Also just think of all the different character interactions

Objectum Zelda (in love with the Sheikah Slate)
Bomb explosions are really cool...and fun!
