In the original canon he is socially awkward and often struggles to connect with people, but all in all he is a typical English gentleman. Hopkins is admiring him deeply and he even can connect to people on a really friendly basis when he thinks they are clever. See Voilet Hunter

So Sherlock being called freak - aka disrespected being heavily disrespected - and being super rude to the people around him feels totally off.

I understand they wanted to give it a fresh, modern feeling, and get rid of the smoke piping gentleman but still?? Was this Mofftiss attempt to give Sherlock a „golden boy“-status (am I using this right?)

Not gonna drag elementary into this again but here we have a Sherlock who struggles to connect to people, who often tiptoes around the autism spectrum, who sometimes comes off rude and crossed boundaries but is able to make deep connection after a while, see Marcus Bell

Idk all in all, elementary feels more book accurate
