Shibashi, aka Gigi Monterro is a Brazilian, Belfast-based producer who would rather be recognized by his music rather than his appearance, given the musician’s camera-shy tendencies. Instead, Shibashi recruits more recognizable faces such as Chlöe Howl, whose bold voice features prominently on latest track “We Were Young”. A track viewed through a retrospective gaze, the disco-inspired track builds through the clunky architecture of rubbery synths and sparkly chimes. Finding clarity through the gentle roar of Chlöe’s husky choir, “We Were Young” showers in with its whirlwind of fluctuating emotion. Describing the track’s sentiments in what he sees as a parallel to his entry into the music industry, Shibashi had this to say about “We Were Young”.
"It’s a heart on your sleeve, dance away the tears, first big break up song. It parallels a relationship with starting out young in the music industry. The ‘twists and turns’ involved in trying to break through and find your feet. New Order meets Lady Gaga at a dinner party with Van Halen."
