*cracks knuckles* TIME TO GET INTO MY SHIGADEKUBAKU AGENDA
How Shigaraki is BOTH Midoriya And Bakugou's Main Villain And How They're All Tied Together: A Long Ramble
.
.
First thing's first—parallels. Specifically the differences between thematic parallels and narrative foils.
Hori has set Bakugou up as Shigaraki's thematic parallel, and Midoriya up as his narrative foil by making Midoriya mirror Tenko while also having Bakugou mirror Shigaraki.
Both Midoriya and Tenko grew up abused and lonely, one thought to be Quirkless and the other actually Quirkless, and even then the first manifested a 'villainous' Quirk not long afterward. Both of them have experienced Quirk discrimination and the inequality of society.
Both were shamed and discouraged for wanting to be a hero to the point that others would get physically violent with them. And while all three of them idolized All Might as children, only Midoriya and Tenko (specifically Shimura) have direct connections to All Might.
Meanwhile, Bakugou and Shigaraki are more physically similar. Both of them have extremely destructive, hand-centralized Quirks, and both of them have the same sort of attitude about them—even their speech patterns are similar in that they both say brash things while simultaneously staying polite in their actions. They are both quick to anger and yet incredibly intelligent and strategic, as well as not-so-natural leaders.
Bakugou's learning curve mirrors Shigaraki's on that almost identically. They approach their set goals with a stubborn single-mindedness that's honestly impressive.
The only place that they really differ is in their mindset towards battle.
Where Bakugou has always fought and trained to achieve absolute victory, Shigaraki has grown up being told that failure is expected and should be turned into a learning experience.
And now in this recent battle this difference is even more important, because while Bakugou is now finding a sort of 'freedom' in failure, Shigaraki has victory in his grasp and yet ultimately remains trapped.
Where Midoriya recognizes Tenko and his pain, but can't understand Shigaraki's villainy, the reverse is true for Bakugou. Where Bakugou cannot relate to discrimination and discouragement, he can understand Shigaraki's villainous mindset.
Because Bakugou has a mirrored redemption arc.
Both he and Shigaraki have anger issues. They lash out and hurt people at the slightest provocation, and are obsessed with making sure that they get what they want. If anyone gets in their way, they're toast.
Or, that WAS the case, at least.
Because wouldn't you know it, Bakugou has since grown! He was confronted with his own weakness, and learned the value of teamwork and kindness by making friends—though his ultimate form of redemption came through Midoriya.
Sounds kinda familiar, doesn't it?
My third point, which my bakudekus will love, is that Midoriya and Bakugou were always meant to be a team.
I always wondered why Bakugou didn't have a true villain of his own, before I realized that it's because Shigaraki is both Bakugou and Midoriya's main villain.
They are a matched set, a pair—you cannot have one without the other. Bakugou and Midoriya have each encountered Shigaraki once alone (Midoriya at the mall and Bakugou during his kidnapping), and every other time they've faced him together.
Because Bakugou was never meant to be his own hero with his own story. He's always been intimately tied in with Midoriya.
This goes all the way back to Deku vs. Kacchan 2, where the phrase 'win to save, save to win' came up, because it comes to fruition in their fight with Shigaraki.
Midoriya is not meant to fight Shigaraki, because he needs to save him. And only Midoriya can save him, because he's the only one who understands that Tenko needs to be saved.
Bakugou is not meant to save Shigaraki, because he needs to fight him. And, as we've seen in the new chapters, (what, you think a student would be the only hero to land a hard hit on the villain if it wasn't plot relevant?) only Bakugou can fight him, because he understands Shigaraki.
To beat ShigAFO, and to save Tenko, both Bakugou and Midoriya need to be the ones to face him. Together.
Both Bakugou and Midoriya understand helplessness intimately. They both know exactly what Shigaraki is going through right now.
In order for All For One to be defeated, and Shigaraki to be saved, you need them both. Because Bakugou couldn't do it on his own, and I guarantee you that Midoriya won't be able to do it on his own either.
And after Shigaraki is let loose, I'm willing to bet that it will take all three of them turning on All For One to defeat him. Not only because it seals Shigaraki's own redemption arc in place, but because it will finally be the three of them all together on the same side.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk! :D
Bakugou & Uraraka Parallels: Kamino Style
The villains decide to target them...
Tsu and Deku get super protective
Bakugou and Ochako get super protective of them
"we're Not so different You and I"
Beating up the villain who claimed they weren't so different
"I want to win just like"...(and then seeing their hero fallen)
Working together with Deku and Tsu to save the day
And watching the Fall of the Symbol of Peace with them
Also of course:
Not a parallel but a sign of them understanding each other at least.

Food for Thought #1 - I WANNA HOLD YOUR HAND ♫ ♪
Midoriya Izuku and Shigaraki Tomura are foils to each other + the endgame matchup.
Deku is set up to save Shiggy, reaching out when no one did.
Shiggy is likened to the first OFA user, Yoichi.
I'm aware of all these things and yet I can't help thinking about the what-if scenario where Shiggy refuses Deku's hand. Instead, he takes somebody else's.
But who? Who aside from Deku could possibly (1) have some experience in the art of hand-holding and (2) is willing to offer their hand to their "worst enemy" rival?
Okay, so, I just want to say that I love Bakugou Katsuki sooo fcking much💜💜💜
He's mY FERAL LITTLE GREMLIN. And I literally ships him with everyone possible, expect Deku. I don't know why, I can see/read them as friend, best friend, frenemies, enemy and many more😍. But, I can't see them in a romantic/sexual relationship. That's just disgust me straightway🤢. I even ship Katsuki with Monoma, ffs😭.
Here are my top 10 Katsuki's ships:
Kariage/Katsuki (I know that he's, like, having a really little screentime and interaction with Katsuki, but...)
You/Katsuki (I like how they're clashing with each other)
Hitoshi/Katsuki (I imagine their relationship will be full of foul-mouthed conversation but super sweet at the same time)
Eijirou/Katsuki (They're so sweet together. And, I imagine Eiji as an S)
Tomura/Katsuki (I don't know why, but I just love them, okay?)
Shoto/Katsuki (They're so... precious)
Katsuki/Camie (Meme lord Camie will be a fit partner for my social awkward child)
Katsuki/Mei (Mei love to makes something and Katsuki like to try and improves his gears. They can be crazy together🤪)
Katsuki/Ochako (actually, my feeling toward this ship is a love-hate. I love this ship, but at the same time I hate it🤔)
Monoma/Katsuki (I like the shock😋)
Now, I just realized that most of my top otps are Katsuki's rare pairs lol.

“Ha?”
He repeats, “We want you to join us.”
“I heard you the first time,” Katsuki said hotly. “But I ain’t no fucking delinquent.”
Crusty tilts his head. “We want—”
“Oi! Are your ears working? I said no.”

So I’ve talked about a deaged hell child Katsuki with one other person, and I’ve had him deaged on his own, but what about a deaged Katsuki with two other people?
Somehow, Izuku, Katsuki and Tomura all get deaged together in a dangerous situation. Izuku and Katsuki were fighting Tomura when someone on Tomura’s or a third party’s side ends up hitting them with a deaging quirk. Despite starting at different ages, they all end up about the same age (7 for Katsuki and Izuku, 8ish for Tomura), none of them have any memories of their older selves, and bad guys are closing in fast.
Katsuki reacts first, fighting back and clearing a path that lets the three of them run off, though they’re still in danger. Whatever group is attacking them either is against both the heroes and the LOV, or if they hit Tomura accidentally, don’t know how to convinced him that they’re on his side. By this point, Tomura has only been with All for One for 3 years. He’s not fully committed to the villain ideals yet, all he knows is there are lots of scary adults around, and these kids he’s suddenly found seem much nicer.
Once they’ve got a hiding spot, they’re all upset and confused, but Katsuki takes the lead and formulates a plan to get them out of there. Tomura is scared of getting too close to either of the other two because of his quirk. Thankfully, their hero costumes/clothing got shrunk with them. Katsuki takes Izuku's gloves and cuts two fingers off each glove for Tomura so his quirk won't activate by mistake. That leaves them free to work on escaping and gets Tomura to trust Katuski.
While they’re trying to escape, Izuku and Tomura keep arguing over various aspects like murder or do not murder. For some reason, the two of them just do not get along and keep getting distracted from their escape to fight. Katsuki is the tie-breaker/babysitter dragging the other two around with him, getting more and more exasperated as time goes on.
In the end, they’ve got a single slim chance to escape, and Katsuki makes the choice to stay behind and fight. This gives Izuku and Tomura enough time to escape together, though neither of them want to leave Katsuki behind. He pretty much forces them into it, telling them he’s going to fight anyways and if they don’t leave it’ll be a waste. Putting their differences aside, the two manage to escape and get help. Katsuki is rescued by the pro-heroes shortly afterwards, but he's pretty beat up.
That's when little Tomura and little Izuku finally find something they agree on. The same thing they agreed on as adults (or adult and teenager). They both think Katsuki is pretty damn cool and both of the are determined to be his friend.
The heroes are working on finding a way to restore the kids back to their normal age, but until then, they decide it’s best to keep all three together under Aizawa’s care. Tomura doesn’t really trust any of the adults, but he’s willing to listen to Katsuki/Izuku when they tell him someone is safe and/or not to murder peope. Also, Tomura doesn’t have great control of his emotions/quirk, and the gloves don’t work when Tomura is really upset, so Aizawa’s their best option for controlling his decay.
Aizawa, while babysitting the problem children, overhears Tomura talking about Katsuki. Tomura’s going on and on about how Katsuki's the coolest hero ever, Tomura's going to fight alongside him one day, and he’s going to be Katsuki’s best friend no matter what. It makes Aizawa break into a cold sweat as he tries really, really hard to not say anything. He then notices, disturbingly enough, Kid Izuku and Kid Tomura talk about Katsuki in the exact same way, and okay, maybe he's starting to understand why Katsuki gets so annoyed with Izuku, if this is what the kid was like growing up.
While Kid Katsuki is recovering from his injuries, he’s very sleepy and compliant. As a result, Kid Izuku and Kid Tomura get into constant arguments over who gets to play with him, tugging him back and forth between them. It’s all out war between the two, their former truce from the escape forgotten.
Aizawa and All-Might are watching the three of them and both trying their best to not point out how it's the kidnapping all over again but on a smaller (and cuter) scale. Of course, after a little while Katsuki gets sick of their shit and goes to hide in All-Might's lap (Aizawa already has a cat on him), and then All-Might gets death glared by Tomura and Izuku for stealing their friend. It’s all the two teachers can do to not break down laughing.
