Death and the Maiden
[Tomura Shigaraki x Ochako Uraraka. Fantasy AU. ] He couldn't always be unlucky enough to be called a banal thief - he was death impersonated, he was a murderer. The only thing he stole were the souls of the deceased, which he had to accompany to the underworld. "Ah, you're the rich apple thief!" He took back everything he said. Of course he was unlucky. | low key toshinko / kiribaku / kacchako.
Death and the Maiden
He was alone.
It was better that way. He didn't like to imagine what kind of chaos he could cause among living beings if he was allowed to—
Ah, he remembered that he now was allowed to. He had risen in rank since his foster father, All for One, was sent to eternal damnation by All Might after the former tried to topple the ruler. Tomura couldn't even say he was sad about the fact - he found out that All for One had manipulated him and his memories. He still could hardly imagine that he had once been a descendant of a demigod, but his foster father had lied to him. And for that he deserved to rot in eternal damnation. It no longer interested him. If you betrayed him, you had to be prepared to live with the consequences.
So it was that he grinned and watched how All for One had been stripped of his powers - what he had done to others before and it was such a sweet irony to know that.
So now he was officially Death himself. He liked this title because he had the same tasks as before, only this time he also had the respect of the other divine beings.
Ah, that was a lie. Many feared him because of his powers, because of his destructive power, and now he had more power than before. It was fear that spread. Except for All Might himself and his semi-divine son, Deku. It was both of them who were not afraid to try to show understanding, especially this green dwarf, who had a similar origin to him. He pressed his jaws tightly together. He wanted no pity, no understanding, why didn't they understand that?
He preferred Endeavor and his children with the ice witch. They hated or feared him. It was exactly right. In an approach to rebellion, he opened a portal into the world of mortals, which he crossed with a thoroughly crazy grin.
Who should be able to stop him?
❀
Why were people so ... irritating?
He looked annoyed at the girl, which glared furiously from her brown eyes. "What do you think you're doing?" She hissed threateningly, and if he wasn't used to worse things, he might be impressed that a mere mortal could have such a tone. Instead, he stared at her steadily. "I am eating an apple. I didn't think you were blind. ”
She blushed with anger. "You can't just take things you don't own!" His face darkened now. 'What are you doing, you stupid mortal? I am-"
"A thief and you have to pay for the goods like everyone else," she said resolutely, her hands on her hips and he looked at her in surprise. Why did she have ...? "Why aren't you afraid of me?" He grumbled, dissatisfied. Instead of answering, she reached out and looked at him promptly. He sighed heavily before reaching into his dark robe and dropping a few heavy gold coins into her hand. He enjoyed the moment when her face showed a mixture of admiration and horror and her mouth opened. "D-that—!" She only managed to get out before staring at him with wide eyes.
"That should be enough," he growled before turning around and biting his apple again. He thought he heard "That is too much!" from the girl, but what did he care? Tomura wanted to return to his realm as soon as possible. The previous trip into the human world had already been enough for him.
If he is accused like this every time, then he has little desire to repeat this action in the future.
❀
After a few days it was time again that his work caused him to panic. So he did what he always did: He fled most of the time, at least until someone found him or he calmed down by himself. The first case occurred more often, but the latter has also occurred occasionally. But at the moment he just wanted to be completely alone - no annoying gods, demons or nymphs or whatever they were called. Just away from everything supernatural that drove him crazy.
So he decided that he would go back to the mortal world. He couldn't always be unlucky enough to be called a banal thief - he was Death impersonated, he was a murderer. The only thing he stole were the souls of the deceased that he had to accompany to the underworld.
"Ah, you're the rich apple thief!"
He took back everything he said. Of course he was unlucky. He stared at her, irritated. "I'd be careful what I say if I were you." Didn't she know who he was? Tomura could say for sure that there were horror stories out about him and he was strangely proud of it. That was his reputation, which he had worked hard for himself. He wouldn't let that be ruined because of a mortal.
She raised an eyebrow. »What else should I call you? Mr. Thief? ”Now he had to pull himself together so as not to slap his hand on his face.
"How about my name?" He growled, scowling at her with his red eyes. “That you never mentioned. Exactly. «
"Tomura," he said, and he wouldn't tell her more. Tenko Shimura was the person he used to be and he was known under Shigaraki. So he would use his second first name. Then he blinked in confusion. Why did he tell her anything about himself at all? He wanted to be left alone. Actually. He could forget that now.
»I am Ochako! Are you from here or are you passing through? ”She asked interestedly, looking at him attentively, a slight smile on her lips. Tomura wasn't sure what to make of it. There weren't many people who would dare to smile at him. So far it was only All Might, Deku and Dabi. And All for One, but he never wanted to think about this man again. Dabi didn't count either because he meant it mockingly. So only the ruler and his bastard son.
'I live here somewhere. It's a little further away, but close enough, ”he said, hoping that would satisfy her curiosity. "So Mr. Tomura, do you usually just eat without paying or was I an exception?" This time she appeared to him ... amused? Why should she be amused? He narrowed his eyes a little suspiciously. "Usually I get what I want without anyone telling me to."
She snorted. "I noticed. You don't have much to do with other people, do you? '
"No." He actually didn't. He was surrounded by monsters, lost souls, gods and demigods, but humans? Rare, extremely rare. "That's why you're so rusty about conversation," she said nodding, and he stared at her in confusion. "I am what?"
Ochako blinked in surprise before a mischievous grin caressed her face. "It seems to me that I should bring a few things closer to you."
❀
Ochako was ... irritating and confusing to the same extent. But he enjoyed the time he could spend with her. It was the first time that he could simply be himself and not have to play a role - not as a subject or Death. It could just be Tomura.
That was ... new. He liked that he didn't have to prove anything to anyone. Ochako didn't know what he was like, so he could do what he wanted.
In return, he learned a few things about her. She was the only child of her parents and she loved them very much. That was the reason why she helped out with the hard work in the village to get some money, because the family business was currently going badly. She wanted to help and she saw this as her only way to really do it. Tomura couldn't understand it. To his knowledge, he never had to go hungry or make sure he had enough money to eat. It was something that seemed strange to him. She was sometimes so desperate that he occasionally bought her an apple or other fruit with his gold coins, which made her smile all over her face every time. He was taken with the gesture.
This was not often because he had to do his job all the time and sometimes the souls of the deceased were just so loud and annoying that he found himself wishing to be with Ochako more than once. At least she was only annoying on a small scale and was sensitive and listened to him when he was upset about something (All Might, Deku, Dabi, Endeavor, the playful dragon Red Riot—). She even gave him advice. Nevertheless, he could not (did not) accept all of them. That would be laughable.
It was a good time. But Tomura learned early on that all good things come to an end - usually far too quickly.
The end started with the fact that she didn't look so happy and lively the next time he saw her. Instead, she appeared to him ... depressed. He frowned. "Which water spirit annoyed you?"
"None. I was only informed of my upcoming wedding, ”she brought out softly, and he looked up at her with slightly raised eyebrows. "I didn't know you wanted to get married." Ochako laughed bitterly. "There is no question of wanting here."
"Kill him and you have no reason to get married," he said, and she stared at him in horror for a moment before laughing. He didn't know what was so funny about it, but he often didn't understand Ochako. "Sorry, but that's so typical of your black humor." Huh, he wasn't even aware that he had humor at all.
"I am serious."
"I know. But it's still of no use to me. We have been promised to each other since we were born. He doesn't like it any more than I do. I mean ... yes, we respect each other, but there will never be love or friendliness between us, he's just too ... aggressive for that, "she admitted, sighing through her brown hair. "I am sure that our marriage will end in disputes because I am not a person who gives in."
"If he hits you, you'll hit back and I'll make him go," he offered, amazed at how seriously he meant it.
She smiled weakly but gratefully. "That's nice, but you won't be able to do much about it."
"My offer still stands," he grumbled and she nodded understandingly.
"Okay, but I won't disappoint my parents by running away before it gets serious." He growled irritably when he heard that. Of course, he thought of All for One, the bastard who had been a father to him and who had used him for his purposes. He had always wanted to make the man proud - now he knew what he has gotten out of it. Nothing. So he hated the thought that Ochako just wanted to make her parents happy and didn't think about herself at all. She had to become more selfish.
'Don't look like that. Katsuki is always irritable, but he's not an inhuman. ”That would still show.
❀
Weeks passed in which he could not meet her. His work grew and since he couldn't shift it to anyone else, he was forced to do everything before he had free time.
And then, when she finally showed up at her meeting point again, she appeared to him like another person. He frowned frowningly. "What happened to you?" Came an unwanted growl over his lips and she managed only a dim smile, which quickly went out.
"Tomura ..." she began gently, and the alarm bells started ringing in his head. Something was catastrophically wrong - as if he had taken the wrong soul with him. "Ochako."
»We won't really be able to see each other anymore. I'm married now, ”she whispered, tears starting to gather in her eyes before wrapping her arms around her middle. Tomura froze. What should he do He was not one to comfort others well, that was beyond his ability and he was the first to admit that. But then again he didn't want her to cry and he didn't know what to do.
He put his hands on her shoulders with discomfort and pressed them lightly. Maybe she understood what he was trying to say.
A sob escaped her throat. “II don't know how to endure this forever! Either he's exploding or he's treating me with cold ignorance! A-and the village doctor confirmed that I — that I am— ”she almost choked on the sentence and he didn't know what she meant until she looked up with her brown eyes and put her hands on her stomach.
Then he understood.
And how he hated that fact. Anger, hate and regret mixed in him and he wanted to let it all out, wanted to destroy something like he always did when anger controlled him, but Ochako was here. Ignorant, desperate, innocent Ochako crying over something that would have made many others happy.
"I'm going to kill him," he said in a grave voice, and she opened her eyes before holding him. "No! He only ... he only touched me on the wedding night, otherwise he gives me everything I need, but— ”, she fell silent and seemed to collapse. "He doesn't hurt me, it's only my own feelings that cause me the greatest pain."
"He should have so much ass in his pants and take care of you!" He hissed now and she winced. Tomura thought about All Might and how he looked after his mortal lover, even if the two couldn't be married - not yet. But at some point, after her natural death, he knew Inko would be promoted to goddess status. If even the goddamn king of gods could do it, then an inferior person should get it sorted out too. "Maybe, but I shouldn't be secretly meeting another man and we can see how it works," she chuckled slightly bitterly before she seemed to calm down.
»I'll take youwith me. You just have to say it, ”her hand literally clenched into his robe. Then she let go and tried to smile at him, which failed miserably. "Thank you, that ... is really generous, but maybe I should pull myself together and be strong - as I told you."
He then watched her with dissatisfaction as she left.
Somewhere in another part of the world there was war and destruction. This is exactly where he went and spread more chaos.
❀
He kept an eye on her. He could easily command a few lower demons to watch over them and report to him. It was so simple. He listened to the creatures with anger and another, indefinable feeling in his stomach. He wished so much that he could be with her instead of that damn man, help her with her pregnancy, but she didn't want to. Tomura respected her, so he bowed to her decision - until it degenerated, then he would be there to intervene.
He wanted to be there, he wanted, wanted—
The man let out a scream before scratching his neck until it hurt, until he felt the first blood, but that feeling didn't stop, just as little as the hate and sheer anger.
Why didn't it stop?
❀
The next time he showed up for the semi-annual gathering of all deities, it was the first time that he had pity instead of fear from the other beings. Anger ran through him. You shouldn't feel sorry for him! They should not-!
"Hey, Shigaraki, are you all right?" A brave, stupid person dared to ask and of course he recognized Deku. How could he not? He was the only one who had the guts to look him in the eye and mostly Tomura liked this silent challenge, but not today, not when Ochako ... He fell into his seat, a heap of rumbling misery and Deku didn't understand that he was only here because he was forced. "What happened? Do you need ... help? ”The green-haired man asked carefully, looking at him with concern. Normally he would have made a scene that he didn't need any help, but ... that was a lie. So he swallowed his pride and nodded tentatively. Deku's eyes widened, but he made no further signs that he was surprised.
"Okay, what's bothering you?"
There was silence for several seconds after this question and Tomura was minimally grateful that Deku was so patient. It would not be if the roles were reversed. Wait, he wouldn't even listen to the other. That was not the issue.
"I made friends with someone," he said grumbling. Deku now looked as if he wanted to grin broadly at any moment, but only the corners of his mouth twitched. "What's the problem with that?"
"She's married to an unimportant character now and I hate it," he spat out the last bit of the sentence as if it were something particularly disgusting. “He's lucky to be by her side - she's a good person, doesn't bother you like many others, including gods, and he takes that for granted. I want to help her with the pregnancy, not this damn— ”
"You're jealous," Deku said softly, the expression on his face softened. Surprised, no, astonished, Tomura blinked at him. "What?"
The green-haired man straightened his back and looked at him resolutely. 'You want what someone else has. It's called envy. And because it's a person in this case, it's jealousy. ”
He let what was said on him and his red eyes widened. "You're right. I want it - I usually just take what I want. « "But would she want that too?"
"Would she ... want that?" He murmured, and his hand automatically went up the back of his neck, scratching his mind absently. "I don't know ... probably not ..." the scratching grew stronger. "But she's suffering, shouldn't I intervene?"
"Did she ask for help?" Deku said softly, and Tomura froze. "No...?"
“Then she's not ready to be saved. Sometimes you have to be at the end before you can allow yourself to be helped, «it seemed to him that the other was speaking from experience, but ... he didn't want to follow up. He didn't care what Deku had done before he came here.
"Ah I understand. The problem is not the damn side character ... it's her pride. «
With these words, Tomura ended the conversation and stopped responding to Dekus' other questions. He had to keep thinking.
❀
More weeks passed before she could get herself up to see him again. He knew something had happened, but none of his stupid spies could tell him what exactly because they didn't know either. He had had outbursts of anger about it. Some did not get away.
And when he did face her, he knew that she was bad, worse than last time, and he thought that it would be impossible. "What the hell happened ?!" he asked aggressively and was tempted to shake her through, which wasn't very smart on the second thought.
She started to sob and howl like a wounded animal before falling to her knees and lying there like a pile of misery. This time, he was quicker to rush to her side and put his hands on her shoulder, on her back, and gently stroked it. A pitiful whimper escaped her before she buried her tear-streaked face in the crook of his neck and wrapped her arms around his torso. Tomura froze, but she didn't let that deter her. She gripped his robe more tightly.
He timidly stroked her hair, which she took as an invitation to speak.
»II lost my baby ... they blame me ... a-as if it were my fault! I couldn't influence that! The only one who doesn't seem to care is Katsuki! He's the only one who doesn't treat me as if I'm - as if I'm a child killer! «, She howled in agony and something in Tomura hurt more than the betrayal of All for One when he felt her agony. "They all pretend it wasn't my child, what ... what d-died ..." she shivered.
She looked up at him with glassy eyes, there was exhaustion, sadness and a certain longing. "Please ... please, take me away from here and make sure Katsuki is free from his burdens. It is not his fault that we are trapped in this marriage. Please ... 'she leaned the entire weight of her body against him and he didn't know when it happened but he was holding her in his arms. Emotions ran through him, too many to distinguish and name them all. But he made a decision.
"I'll get you out of there, Ochako," he promised her, amazed that he had an urge to protect her from everything. He was someone who gave in to his impulses, so he would do just that.
She cried for quite a while.
❀
Tomura was not surprised when Red Riot appeared in his realm, right under his nose. He was only pleasantly surprised that it happened so quickly. After all, he had had him called first.
“Hey Shigaraki, what's going on? I heard you need my help? ”The red-black dragon growled cheerfully before turning into his human form. Usually, such ... cheerful creatures annoyed him, but he had to think of Ochako and then he wasn't so averse to him.
"Yes. You have to kidnap someone for me. I don't care if you kill him or keep him as your sweetheart or hoard or whatever, but he has to go. Find out where he is unobtrusively and then make a huge scene when you drag him away from there. The rest doesn’t matter.”
Red Riot stared at him in disbelief with his big red eyes. "Woah, what did he do to you?" 'He married Ochako. Now she is unhappy because she is held responsible for something over which she has no control and when he is gone she counts as a widow, so I can take her with me without much protests. «
"You just want to kidnap a woman ?!"
Tomura scowled at Red Riot. "She asked me to." The shapeshifter looked as if a light was coming on. “Ohhh, man, that's really nice of you! I would not have expected this-"
"You won't mention this to anyone," he threatened the other. “You will just accomplish the mission and keep silent about it. I'll give you enough gold. ”Red Riot's eyes took on an enthusiastic, almost insane expression, and a broad grin settled on his lips. "Deal."
❀
After receiving news from Red Riot that Ochako's supporting character was finally gone, the dragon had chosen him as part of his treasure, he set off.
He grabbed Kurogiri, his faithful shadow horse, wrapped himself in his cloak of darkness and went out to get her.
Tomura arrived in the village and enjoyed the excitement, the panic of the residents. Shortly before, Red Riot had kidnapped the husband, now he was going to grab the wife. An enthusiastic grin came up. So many had told him that his smile looked more like a cruel grimace. Ha! He built on that.
So he marched in, Kurogiri did not leave footprints like normal horses, but rather threatening shadows and minor figures. Ochako caught his eye and stared at him in disbelief, traces of tear on her cheeks. Huh. She had actually cried for her husband.
He stopped in the market square, most of the village gathered around him, with fear and terror on their faces. He grinned broadly again and many flinched.
“You have two options. Either Ochako comes with me as my bride or I will turn your entire village into rubble and ashes. You have the choice, ”came his rough voice and he looked back at her. Her mouth almost opened when she realized what he was doing here.
"Good man, do you really think we'll just move Ochako out like a piece of cattle?" A brave man with blue hair and a straight face raised his voice. His eyes fell on him. 'I don't just believe it, I know it. Otherwise, I will simply carry out my threat ... «, with these words he swung from Kurogiri and touched an abandoned wooden bucket, which then crumbled to dust. A murmur went through the crowd, as well as an isolated scream. A crazy smile played around his face.
"We're never giving up Ochako-," the man started angrily from now on, but the aforementioned stepped forward and put a hand on his arm. "Tenya, it's okay," she said softly, and he looked puzzled. Tomura snorted amused. "But he just wants to take you with him!" Tenya looked desperate and the brown-haired woman smiled at him. "Please, trust me ... everything will be fine."
Then she turned to him and gave him a bright, relieved smile, which he returned with the twitch of the corner of his mouth. Slowly she walked up to him and Kurogiri and took his hand. A couple who looked like her parents gasped in horror, wrongly assuming that the same fate as the bucket was about to bloom for their daughter. These fools. He would not choose a bride to destroy her in the same breath.
He raised her hand up to his mouth before blowing a kiss on the back of her hand. She inhaled sharply and blushed. It was the most romantic gesture he had ever made and he was sure that under other circumstances, if his neck wasn't so scratched up, you could see a slight shade of pink there.
"Tomura ..." she murmured, and if he didn't know better he would say she was embarrassed. “Death has come to take you. Aren't you scared? ”He asked her softly and she shook her head, a warm expression in her eyes.
"No, because he's my savior."
He grinned again and helped her onto his horse before swinging onto his creature with a practiced movement behind her. Then he clicked his tongue. Kurogiri immediately ran and hopped through one of his shadow portals.
That’s how you successfully kidnapped someone without consequences.
❀
"Why hadn't you ever told me you were a god?" She asked him days after she was brought into his realm. It didn't sound accusatory, as he would have expected, but just curious.
She reached out a hand from her side of the bed and placed it on his cheek. He sighed deeply and strangely content. "Wouldn't you have been afraid?"
She blinked in surprise. "I do not know. Maybe. Maybe not. Nobody can say that for sure. ” There was silence for several seconds before breaking through. "What happened to Katsuki?" She said softly and again the jealousy stirred in him that she was still talking about him.
“Red Riot took a liking to him. He's trying to woe him aggressively - and it works, as far as I know. «
Now her eyes almost fell out before she started laughing heartily. "Oh! OH! That explains so much! «, She said only and slid deeper into the pillow with a happy smile. "I'm happy that he's fine, even though I miss my parents and friends."
"You can visit them," he grumbled then, for hadn't she thought about it herself? "I didn't know if I was allowed to ..." she admitted quietly and he frowned. "I didn't get you out of your old prison to put you in a new one."
Gratitude was reflected in her expression. Instead of saying something, however, she heaved herself up, leaned over him, and breathed a kiss on his mouth, which he replied only too willingly.
He was no longer alone - Ochako was by his side.
