I'd like to know your opinion on deadpools relationships/love interests. I haven't read much on him, but I think he kinda idealizes his partners? Like in Circle Chase, it came off to me he wanted Vanessa to be with him even though she didn't like the violent him. With Siren, it felt like he wanted her to 'fix' him because she's good and she can set him right. He married Shiklah impulsively and it felt like his attempt at a normal life?
yes to all - but, well - vanessa is a bit more complicated. even in circle chase, i don't think it's as simple-cut as "wade wants vanessa to be with him" - i think we see a lot of "wade not wanting vanessa to be with him" because he doesn't necessarily believe he's good or deserving.
not to mention a tonne of double crossing and history behind the scenes - circle chase is not the first time we see vanessa and wade. there's a lot of history there already - even from the first introduction of deadpool in new mutants - vanessa was there too - though she wasn't revealed to be there until later. she was in the form of domino. who impales wade with many sharp pointy things.
vanessa is a mercenary too, in the comics - don't forget. wade isn't the faulty party in this regard.
i think vanessa's spiel in circle chase is not vanessa hating him for the violence - but telling wade that he is more than that. more than just a weapon. which - well, is the culminating point in the story - as the machine that neutralises weapons is confounded by wade - it has a similar realisation that wade is beginning to have. that wade isn't only a weapon, and he is capable of healing. not just others, but potentially himself.
and i feel like vanessa hammers it home - wade needs to get beyond his past, and beyond his self-doubt, and heal.
i don't think wade's being particularly possessive over vanessa in circle chase - nor does he idealise her - he simply loves her, and doesn't want her to die. very simple.
he knows that they've fucked each other over in the past - vanessa, if anyone, wade knows isn't perfect. they're as messed up as each other - and frankly - maybe vanessa even more so, if you continue reading the comics and see the lengths vanessa goes to possess wade. (a complete flip of her characterisation here, frankly)
in fact - their roles reverse so hard, that wade becomes the sensible one.
so yeah. incredibly messy self-destructive couple with abysmal self-worth issues and a penchant for violence. they would've never worked out.
i don't think wade idealises vanessa. there's a case to be made that vanessa idealises wade - maybe. in that she becomes obsessed with him later on. i think it's a bit gross, what they wound up doing with vanessa - it's like they tore her character down so wade could have some enlightenment. but - sure, it tugs on the heart strings.
with siryn - it's very much a case of wade latching onto her kind heart, and yeah. it's an idealised, school boy crush that would never work out. i don't really touch upon it whenever i write - but - mostly because no one asks.
shiklah - well, it's really frustrating. they might've been in love, for a little bit - though, it might've just been the pheromones... i think he definitely wanted it to finally work out, for sure.
wade's characterisation in his marriage with shiklah was always frustrating to me - because they straight-ified him. more than any of his previous relationships - they made it so he took issue in shiklah not being "sexy" enough.
i think very quickly in his marriage he started being dissatisfied in his marriage with shiklah - which is why he overcompensates in moments like this - complaining that she's not dressed scantily enough, yadda yadda - and he eventually starts distracting himself with personal missions that frustrate shiklah - because she wants him to be the man she fell in love with. so they're both unhappy in marriage.
i think it's common in fandom to see wade idolise his love interests, particularly when it comes to spider-man - but i think his relationships all have very different dynamics, and the way he feels about each can't be covered in one blanket. wade and vanessa were constant push-and-pull, and the two were both deeply traumatised and violent - and shiklah and wade - i just don't think they were compatible people. but the sex was great. also there's the reverse dynamic of what you mentioned - where shiklah loves the violent wade, and doesn't want him to change - even though wade does want to be better. they just want different things.
