Nice to meet you. I'm Tanwa.
—SHINE · Episode 1
Me (fruity) and my uncle (also fruity) neither of us know smiling and acting like we aren't both thinking about homosexuality and the extremely attractive and kinda annoying men in our lives that are gonna end up changing our lives drastically
my favorite creative choice in shine is how you can see the kill bill sirens start going off in victor's head whenever he's within 30 feet of tanwa
Shine Meta #2
I love that in Shine, after all that shit happened after Victor's death, Tanwa never resented Trin. After seeing Victor's dead body, Trin went and in grief-stricken fury, punched and blamed Tanwa (unfairly so) and Tanwa was in a shock. Even before he could enter his worst mental state and spiral, Tanwa still followed Trin all around as the latter was having a meltdown post Victor's death, and even though he did not appear in front of him, he cried and broke down.
Trin left to Paris while Tanwa was spiralling the hell out. Even on Sucha's request to see Tanwa, Trin refused to see him as he saw it as something he needs to deal with himself. Seems cold, but on my first Shine meta I already laid out my understanding of this. It was Tanwa's father who eventually helped him out of that, and lent him his mother's last novel that was unfinished. It ended up healing that 12-year-old child in him that saw his mother unalive herself, and also began to come to terms with what happened.
The novel that he finished was named Indigo Moon, and it was made obvious, through fans of the show actually, that Trin is referred to as Tanwa's moon (won't go into the deets of that since there is already a lot of detailed meta on that). Through that book, not only did he heal, but managed to communicate what actually happened, with Victor coming to terms with Trin and Tanwa's relationship along with his unrequited crush on Trin, and him telling Tanwa not to tell Trin about the protest (that ultimately got him killed). In the last line, he wrote that he hopes that someone "is ready to listen to his voice", and ending it with "the moon always shines", a hopeful outlook, that to me was obvious that it was for Trin. Also gonna give a big 10 to Moira for delivering the book to Trin. It was when Trin actually understood and felt guilty for what he did. He tried to chase after Tanwa but unexpectedly, Tanwa met him, for the first time in two years, at Pont Neuf bridge, smiling at him and asking to sign an autograph. Pont Neuf bridge and the vanilla sky in Paris was what they talked about till things took a turn for the worst for them. This was where they met and reintroduced themselves after two fucking years!
Throughout this, Tanwa never resented or hated Trin. He still understood and respected him even though Trin was being unfair to him. He didn't just spiral because Trin left him, although unhealthy codependency was definitely a valid reason. But the reason behind that codependency was his fear of abandonment ever since his mother passed away. Add to that guilt of not keeping Victor's words, and reliving his trauma of getting/feeling abandoned after he finally let go his avoidance of commitment. After he finished his mother's last novel, Tanwa finally healed and let go off his codependency. If you remember that scene in ep 6 where Trin walks away to keep his trumpet before kissing Tanwa, after Tanwa said that he wants to stay with Trin. Fans pointed out that he looked anxious with a few secs of Trin walking off, that he screwed up, even though it was only to put away his trumpet. In their meeting at Pont Neuf Bridge, Trin looked away a few times in shock that he still saw Tanwa. Tanwa, however, was a lot more relaxed about it. That was quite a difference from the 6th ep, and it makes all the more sense, given that they met after two years of being away from each other. That takes immense strength given what he went through, hence he is an MVP.
